im not sure about this kind of stuff, but i dont think that the cable can transfer data as fast as the IDE cable, and 2, you would need a very fast ISP

I think you are right about the cables, but shouldn't 100 MBps be enough? Also the speed wouldn't depend on my ISP, as all the traffic is through my LAN the burden would be on my router.

i dont think its fast enough. by the way mbps stands for megabits per second, not be confused with megabytes. and 100 megabits is only about 12.2 megabytes, i dont think thats fast enough to run a game smoothly anyways.

first off, it MIGHT be able to, because a game stores the information in RAM, and depending on how often the xbox calls for data from the hard drive you just might end up with a slow loading game, not a non-working game.

It mainly depends on if you can configure the xbox to set up a networked drive.

I think you might be right. I would just have to figure out how to let the xbox access the device without having to use an ftp client app... Since we are talking about networking I was also wondering if anyone knows how to set the mac address. Everytime I reboot I get a new one, and that makes it hard to give it a static IP, which makes it a pain to ftp.

I've been thinking about this. I think it could work if I were to run Linux and then use an emulator like MountIso to run it from the network drive. What do you think? I was also wondering how hard it is to write an app for the xbox. Would it be easy to convert something like this written for Linux?
