Ah! Thank you, good sir. I will have to do that very soon.

Did you ever have any problems screwing your machine screws into the GPU heat sink? The CPU one (which I'm assuming is the big tall one) was really easy, but for the GPU I use one screw on one corner and another on the other corner to make sure it stays tight. The other two won't fit in. I tried screwing them in without going through the mobo, but it seems to get caught on something. I tried for a while and it just keeps getting goofy.

MWA HA HA HA HA!!!!!! this is my first successful mod! awsome tut! just a little trouble shooting for those of you that are having trouble.... I tried this fix last night and could never get it to overheat, i left the box on for over an hour and nothing. i shut it down for a bit but still got the rrod. this morning i loosened the skrews holding the sink in place and lo and behold it started working. After my excited little girl dance i put it all back together, turned it on, and...... RROD!!!! had to calm down a bit, then take it all apart, i figured out that when putting the torx screws in the bottom of the system if i barely snugged them up instead of tightening them and put everything back together that it works like a dream...

.... the tip is to not have to much pressure on the sinks, if you have your system open and push down on them it will give you the Rrod, but as soon as you let off it goes away.

hope this was helpful

yes, and then you have to unplug the chip that has the power button. u just remove the three skrews and gently but firmly pull the chip from the front. Then you should be good ta go.

Re: How to Permanently Fix the 3 Red Lights (RRoD) by Scar

I followed this excellent tutorial about one year ago after my first RRoD. Fast forward one year and the console have worked perfect till about three weeks ago when i got a E74.

I turned the console off, removed the cables and turned it on and it worked again for a couple of weeks, but yesterday it started to hang after about 1-2 minutes in FIFA 10.

Today it was even worse (hanged after 30 secs in the dashboard with and without the 20GB harddrive inserted) so i tought why not to the same thing I did one year ago. I cleansed the GPU and CPU and added new thermal compound, but it didnt fix anything. The 360 still freezes after about 15-30 secs and its not hot at all.

Does anyone have any idea what to be done? Thanks for the help so far and sorry for the long first post

E78 might be a HDD error. Try to start your 360 with the hard-drive unattached, if not, consult google

Re: How to Permanently Fix the 3 Red Lights (RRoD) by Scar

your heat sink could be putting too much pressure on the chip. it doesnt take much pressure to get the rrod. did u try slightly loosening the skrews holding the heat sinks in place?

P.S. when i was fixing my bro-in-laws e74 i keeped having trouble. then i noticed that when i put the disc drive in, that tiny amount of pressure it put on the sink caused the 74 ta happen. it really doesnt take hardly any excess pressure to get the RROD...

Re: How to Permanently Fix the 3 Red Lights (RRoD) by Scar

I followed the tutorial. At first I was getting a single flashing red light but thats not longer an issue as it has decided it only wants to do the 3 red rings. I have tried 3 different version of the X-Clamp fix but I cant get these damn red lights to go. I keep overheating it peristantly because I dont know what else to do.

Please. Help. I dont have another 200-400$ for a new xbox.

Bump for help. Its been 24hrs. Does no one have any advice for me? I need some serious help.

Bump. Again. Been two days and no one has ANY advice? I find this hard to believe.

did you check the tips posted above. if you tried those and still got nothin then your box is probably fried.

YES!!! I got it working again, thanks Scar..I had to mess with it a bit. It would not overheat for me w/o the rom hooked up (weird I know), but once I figured that out, BOOM.
