CON resigning explained

ok, so I've noticed that different people have different ideas of just what a CON resigner can and cannot do. Here's a short tutorial:

On the xbox 360, there are 3 main types of compressed files:
-CON, used for game content storage.
-PIRS, used for xbox 360-specific storage.
-LIVE, used for xbox live content.

With a CON resigner, you could:
- modify game content.
- modify game saves.
-modify your profile.
-Gain GS easily (this is how 360gs works)
With a CON resigner, you couldn't:
- Gain illegal access to xbox-live games or DLC.


With a PIRS resigner, you could:
-get xbox live demos, and videos. not like a resigner for this would help >.>
With a PIRS resigner, you couldn't:
-gain illegal access to xbox-live games or DLC.
-modify game content.
-modify game saves.
-etc...

With a LIVE resigner, you could:
-gain illegal access to xbox-live games or DLC.
With a LIVE resigner, you couldn't:
-modify game content.
-modify game saves.
-modify your profile.
-gain GS by cheating.
-etc...

The CON keys are stored on your xbox-360 locally.
The LIVE/PIRS public keys (decryption keys) are stored on your 360. The private keys are stored on the M$ servers somewhere.

This means that even with a CON resigner, all you would be able to do is modify saved game content (such as custom forge maps in halo 3), and modify your profile, but you COULDN'T steal DLC.

Now, a CON resigner won't be able to resign actual disk data. Meaning halo 3 maps cannot be resigner with a CON resigner.
Even with a CON resigner, some content will have encryption schemes of their own which the CON resigner CANNOT resign.

Okay, here's a query. Let's say I have downloaded content using my XBL account on my hdd but downladed using another person's XBOX, so it's tied to their console ID. Can I, effectively, use a CON resigner to migrate the license (resign the console ID of the content so it will work in my 360)? I'm aware this is possible through XBL, but that is unfortunately not an option. That's why I need to use a tool such as this.

i'm pretty sure all DLC are in live containers....

No. Downloaded content is stored in a LIVE container, not a CON. And wow old topic lol.

So what about a Live Resigner then, such as a profile and device id "resigner" from 360gamesaves? Is there such a thing, and if so, what's the app called, or file name to Google? Thanks!

No live resigner, we don't have the key necessary to make one. By the way that is what the thing on xbox.com does for you.

There is no LIVE resigner. The only reason we have a CON resigner is because the keys are stored in the XBOX. For PIRS and LIVE they are not. Also btw some gamerpics are CONs.

There should be no reason to even edit LIVE files or PIRS -.- The way they are licensed to your account are not done through the physical file itself.

That's basically what I'm hoping. I figure all I need to change is the console ID since the content was downloaded using my account, but not on my console and I can't get online with my console. Can you please direct me to a sticky post or tutorial for accessing the .con files or navigating the file structure on the HDD? Thanks. I've already dumped the image from my HDD and can browse it using Xplorer, but I'm missing the next step.

It's not done by console ID dude. All LIVE files and PIRS files have nulled out profile IDs and Console IDs. The only way to get it to work is to modify your profile's licenses, which sorry, but I will not disclose any more information pertaining to said licenses.

nahh actually its possible but its client sided only, so only you would be able to see your modified gamerpic.
