If it doesnt work at first make sure you overheat it to resolder the chips, if that doesnt work then play with the tightness of the screws, if it still doesnt work then try 1 washer instead of 2, if it doesnt work after all that then its probably unfixable.

This doesn't fix all the symptoms of the rrod. It merely fixes the overheating issues.

sorry dont flame me for this, but i was using a similar tut over at llama.com, and i suggest a couple things
clean off the old thermal paste before you put on the new paste
put everything together until your at the part of the case, take out the fan and place it on top of the cpu heatsink, then turn it on for 10-15 minutes and let it go until it gets teh rrod, if you dont get it you really fixed it, at least mine didnt, but you should do this so when u turn it off then it will work and for sure never get the rrod... sorry this is what llama just said so im gonna trust them

I just re-read this and he puts on WAY too much thermal paste, you only have to put on less than half that much...

Also, check the secondary error codes on your 360. do this by holding in the sync button and pushing eject 4 times, each time you push eject a different set of lights should flash.
All 4 lights means error code 0
3 = 3
2 = 2
1 = 1

In my experience error 0102 and 0020 are easy to fix and this should do it. but error 0022 or 0110 are usually not fixable. there are tons more codes and they all mean different things.

Let it run with the RROD for a bit without the big tube thing on. When it overheats, and turns off, let it sit for 10+ minutes so the solder that has reconnected has a chance to cool down. Now turn it back on.

If it worked, and you have green lights again, just reattach everything (eg. the big tube thing, secure the screws) and there you go!

If not, just keep trying. As you see from him, he had to do it about a dozen times before he got it right.

Sounds like your giving it full contact with the heatsink. If you do that it will never overhead =X

You're only supposed to make it as loose as it can be till the error for a loose heatsink is gone.
