How To Stream .MKV Files To Your Xbox 360 Using Windows Media Center

Requirements:

• You must be running Windows 7(RC or full)
• Your PC needs to be in the same network as your xbox 360(wired or wireless)

Step 1:

• Download and install the Divx 7 Bundle located here.

Step 2:

• After you install that program, you need to tell Windows what folders you want your videos to be taken from. First, go to Windows Media Player, click on organize, then manage libraries, and then videos. From there you can add any folders which contain your MKV files.

Step 3:

• Reboot your PC

Step 4:

• Turn on your xbox 360
• Go to My Xbox and navigate to Windows Media Center
• If you have already set up Windows Media Center, go to Pictures + Videos, and then click on Video Library. From there you can select the folders which contain your videos.
• If not, set up Windows Media Center and then repeat step 4

If you have any sound issues, your MKV may be have an unsupported codec.

You will loose quality by doing so. Since the audio codec used by MKV files is not supported by the Xbox 360, the Xbox 360 converts the video and audio to play it on the Xbox 360, therefore loosing the HD quality.

When you convert to MP4, you keep the video intact and only convert the audio into AAC.

That is why you download the new version of Divx. It makes it so you can stream it HD to your 360. I have personally tried this, you have not. Try and it then let me know what you think.
