How to: Mod Gamer Pics.

- Modding Gamer Pics. –

So, have you ever wanted to have your own customized gamer pics. Well if so your in the right place !
First off if you mess anything up I am not responsible. If you corrupt anything it is your own fault but it most likely can be fixed.

Programs you need:
-HxD or any other Hex Editing software.
-A CON resigner and rehasher.
-Some sort of transfer program I recommend Xplorer 360
To find these programs search the forums or use google.

I never tested the built in rehasher in this resigner so I included a different one but I'm sure the built in one works.


First off you need to extract the CON file off your hard drive. To do this, locate these folders:





Now that you extracted the file to your desktop (just drag and drop) you need to open the file in a hex editor. Preferable HxD which I am using here. Once you open it in HxD, hit CTRL + F. Now a window like this will appear.





Now, you will see highlighted “PNG”. Go to the character before this which is “‰” (a double percent sign looking character) and select all the way down until you see “IEND®B`‚”. After the comma ( , ) click copy and open a new file (still leave your existing one opened) and paste the hex.



Save as “image1.png” (no quotes). Now you can exit out of the image1.png, just return to your previous hex file. And MAKE SURE YOUR CURSOR IS AFTER THE PORTION YOU JUST SELECTED. Repeat the search for png steps and save as image2.png. Keep doing this until it finally says “Can’t find png”.


Now just minimize HxD.


Go to the directory where you saved your image1.png, image2.png, etc. Edit your images with any image editing software you want, but be sure to follow this next step when you are done editing.

OPEN THE IMAGES IN MSPAINT AND CLICK FILE > SAVE.


(what this does is saves the image as a raw PNG, some editing software will save the file as some really weird version of a compressed PNG.)


Now you are ready to inject your edited images back into their container. So maximize HxD back up and put your cursor all the way at the top and search for png again. Select the same block of HEX that you did earlier and open up image1.png (your edited image) in another tab of HxD copy the whole hex of the edited image and go to the main CON file. Make sure you right click and click Paste WRITE. (NOT INSERT!)


NOTE: DO NOT USE CTRL + V!


Now add null bytes (00) all the way down to the comma at the end.



Continue this process with image 2 then 3 and so on…


Now when you are done click File > Save.


Open up a resigner and resign your file then rehash it with a rehasher.
Go to xplorer 360 and transfer back and overwrite the old file and there you go.

Only you can see them, everyone else just sees the original picture

I think that everyone has to have the same picture saved on there xbox to see it because the xbox of the other person would read it as unknown and use the default gamerpic.

ohh arite. Meh it doesn't matter that much I still have a gamerpic to show off to my friends when they come over. They are gonna be all confused

gamerpics are serverside so no one can see the "custom" one along with the tut is wrong

It's still cool to have a custom picture. It's great for offline profiles. Sorry for the confusion of this.

ya and great for the risk of getting banned too, they have to have ID's associated with the gamerpics so if its messed up or different than the server side ones, then easy BAN!

Ok, well at the top of the tutorial it says do at your own risk. I have had my gsmerpic modded for about a month now still no ban, maybe when the update releases.

Thanks, That's what I mean it is a great idea for an offline profile. But I am researching how to make others see it like the xbox vision ones. I think I am going to pick up an xbox vision camera this week some time.

If you pick up the vision cam just take a pic of whatever you want to be your pic

and this whole "server side" thing, to my uderstadning it takes the picture and saves it to the microsoft servers, and then you get it from there, thats why everyone can see them, a good way to try this though would be to disconect from live then take this picture, mod it, and reconect to see what hapens oh and IMD1, the reason people want modded gamerpics is couse the live camera has crappy quality

Nice thinking, I don't have a camera but I heard you can only make it if your online.
