'All VIA cards with a 6420 chipset work.'

What you will need:
  • Dosflash v1.6 from Xbins. Extract the rar file. You will have a Dosflash 16 folder and a Dosflash 32 folder. We will be using the Dosflash 32 folder.
  • Benq iXtreme v1.41 firmware from Xbins.

- Disassemble your 360.
- Connect the SATA cable to your Xbox drive and then to your first SATA port. Connect your Hard-Drive to your second SATA port (if your hard drive is SATA). Unplug all other IDE and SATA cables.
- Connect your power supply unit to your Xbox 360.
- Turn on your computer but not the Xbox just yet.
- Turn on the your Xbox when you are in Windows XP
- Start the DosFlash32.exe in the Dosflash32 folder.
- DosFlash32 will ask you if you want to resend the mtk vendor intro cmd (something about ‘Magic 28’), press Yes
- Your Xbox will then be recognized by Dosflash32.
- At the top you will see a drop down menu with number such as 0xEc00 or whatever the case may be. These are your port numbers. The one on the top is your first port, then the one below it your second port etc.
- Keep it on your first port number (the one your Xbox is attached to)
- Make 100% sure you have the correct port number. You don’t want to accidentally flash your hard-drive. You can now read your firmware by clicking ‘read flash’. It will ask you were you want to save the firmware. Choose your desktop for now.
- Once it has read the firmware, you will have a file on your desktop called ‘orig.bin’. If it is called something else, you have the wrong port number! If this is the case, change the drop down menu in Doflash32 to a different port and re-read the firmware until you do have the correct port. This is vital because when it comes to erasing the firmware you want to make sure you don’t accidentally erase your hard-drives firmware. Check that it is 256kb big. If it’s not, re-read the firmware until it is.
- Copy this firmware from your desktop into the iExtreme folder you got off Xbins. Copy it into the ‘12x folder’ and then click ‘Make iXtreme firmware.cmd’
- A dos screen will come up. Press any key and the program will make your hacked firmware. In that 12x folder you will now have a firmware called ‘ix14-12x.bin’ or something to that affect. Copy this firmware to your desktop.
- Still in Dosflash32, change the ‘Flashing Task’ tab to ‘erase’ and click at the bottom of the program to erase your Xbox’s firmware.
- Once that is done, change the ‘Flashing Task’ tab to ‘write’ and click at the bottom of the program to write the new firmware to your Xbox. It will ask you to locate a file. Choose the new hacked firmware that you had previously saved to your desktop (ix14-12x.bin).
- It should read 4 banks and then say complete. Your Xbox is now flashed.
- Turn off your Xbox and then shutdown your computer before disconnecting it from your SATA port.
- Make sure you keep your orig.bin firmware in case you ever need to get the Xbox back to the original firmware. I recommend burning it to disc or emailing it to yourself.
- Happy Gaming!

Re: BenQ Xbox 360 flashing SATA question

djblackbeard..i registered in just to express my gratitude....i followed word for word, and it worked..At first i thought i would'nt given i've owned this pc since 01,,,not to mention that the manufacture date reads "July 96"..
So i bought this card VIA VT6421A IDE & SATA RAID PCI Controller Card half-expecting my pc not to support it but what do you know.....
As for dos32, to find my 360's dvd drive, i just scrolled through the "ports" given only one hardware's connected to the sata card; so as soon as teh "read flash" appeared i knew that had to be the 360.
And again.. thanks....now i have this philips lite-on drive sitting around,..would this exact technique work for it??

Sorry for double posting, but apparently this lite-on drive happens to be another "new" MS drive, and i got it form this rrod elite i bought/repaired....Any input as to how to flash it????
My apologies if this is off topic.

o.. and i just realised i'd flashed the benq with ix14 instead of ix14-12x.(after clicking ‘Make iXtreme firmware.cmd’, ix14 appeared in the same folder, so i hastily assumed that was the hacked firmware i was supposed to write. Whereas ix14-12x was actually created, but was in another folder.)
Is this going to be a problem???...i mean i don't have any burned media to try this out, but the system still plays original 360 games.

so in a worst case scenario i might have to write the ix14-12x firmware...so just incase..how woud i go about doing this?? Do i have to erase ix14 then write ix14-12x?? or should i revert to the original firmware first??

Thats correct, the '0XD880' is your first port. (in future, if you ever need to know your port number, its what ever comes after the 0x, so your port number is 'D880'.

If you drop down that menu, you will see your second port below it and then your third port below that etc etc.

I'm taking it your xbox is not connected to that port? Or else the "read flash" at the bottom wouldnt be greyed out.

- First off, i'm glad to hear it worked for you. Is very easy to do if you follow the instructions closely.

- The problem with the LiteOn drives is that they have been developed in conjunction with Microsoft and Phillips to combat piracy, where on your BenQ drive you were able to read, erase and write firmware onto the drive, the LiteOn drive has a 'read only' function and you cant actually write anything onto the drive... C4E are currently working on a solution but is suggest checking back everynow and then to see if there's a firmware solution yet. At the moment the only thing you can do, which i wouldnt suggest, is to take out your LiteOn drive, spoof a samsung drive into thinking it is a LiteOn Drive and soldering to your xbiox's motherboard. Wouldnt suggest it.... there tuts though if you'd like to try it

- When you downloaded the firmware from Xbins, there would have been 4 folders. namely 2x, 5x, 8x and 12x. These indicact how fast you would like your Xbox to read discs. The normal speed and the speed you have when you purchase your Xbox is 12x. It is louder but reads discs faster, if you use 8x, it will be a bit more quite but slower in reading discs etc. 2x is the slowest but makes little noise. If you didnt mind how loud it was before you flashed it, stick with 12x, load times are better and theres little to no lag time in games.

- The latest firmware for the benq is 'v 1.41'. Within that folder there will be the various drive speeds you can choose.

- Theres no need to revert to the original firmware. Just erase, and then write the new firmware. DONT LOOSE YOUR ORIGINAL FIRMWARE! and always make new firmware with your original firmware because your original firmware is specific to you xbox.

Regards,

Re: BenQ Xbox 360 flashing SATA question

hmm.. the weirdest thing happened..in the Benq iXtreme v1.41 folder(unrared ,,,from xbins) there's 12x, 2x, 5x, etc..
so inside the 12X folder i go, there's a FW folder, in there's located the ix14-12x firmware which i used to flash. But now everytime i popped a game, the dash just read "play dvd"..So PLAY it is then. Next it takes me to a screen reading in multiple languages "insert dvd in 360 to play".. or something along those line...so it couldn't recognise discs. so i reverted to the ix14 i mentioned above, and it plays smooth now...Only thing is given i don't own any burned media as of yet, so there's no way of telling if it could run them,,,i theorise that it can...(i'm downloading gears2 btw)
And again, you've proven quite indepensable beard-man....i was really hating the thought of using ms-dos.

Re: BenQ Xbox 360 flashing SATA question

haha, thanks man.

I think you doing something wrong though. Try follow what i post here and if you are doing something different this is the correct way to go about it:

Go into your BenQ iExtreme folder. There will be a folder called '2x', '5x', '8x' and '12x'. Go into the '12x' folder. Forget about the folder called 'fw'. The contents of that folder is what the firmwareware tool uses to create your firmware. Stay in the folder that has 'firmtool.exe', 'make iextreme firmware.cmd' and 'readme.txt'. Copy your original firmware that you retrieved into this folder you are in. Once your orignal firmware is there, click the 'Make iXtreme firmware.cmd', it will use the firmware in the 'fw' folder to create your own firmware. It will run a short dos program and tell you to press any key. Once you do, in that same folder you are in you should get a new file called 'ix14.bin'. This is your firmware that you must write to the Xbox, not the file in the 'fw' folder.

Dude i was looking around and thought i'd give you a hand..assuming you're willing to give this another shot.
You see, exactly the same thing happened to me, you know the freezing and what not. But the freezing stopped after turning the 360 off. That's a "good" thing actually, given it signifies there's some sort of activity between the pc and the 360 drive. Now try this.
-restart pc,connect the 360 appropriately and turn it on.
-start dosflash32.
-at the popup don't press any anything, just turn the 360 off then back on again.
-now push "yes" at the popup.
-now turn the system off, and back on.
-Now the box should appear notifying of the found 360 drive but don't panic if nothing happens.
-simply run dosflash32 again but select "no" this time.
-Now scroll through the ports and your 360 drive (under sata) should be in there. Otherwise just connect to another sata port, restart pc, then do this all over....
I mean what do you have to lose/???

Re: BenQ Xbox 360 flashing SATA question

aye i hear ya.. although the rrod issue could be fixed as easily as just messing around with some screws in there...More power to you then...hope you get 'er done..

Well DBlackbeard, a 360 just arrived in the mail today from the M$ repair center, and like you probably guessed already, it was replaced with a philips-liteon instead....Quite infuriating if you ask me. Had i known, i would've (tried) repaired it myself with the xclamp kit.
Someone had better figure this flashing really soon...
