Im pretty sure you need mroe than jsut a ip to get someones info besides the phiser it could of been a Keylogger, many people fall into download keyloggers

Yes, it's likely that he put his information into a phispher, however, it is pretty easy for someone to have stolen his account from as little as his IP address. I know for a fact that you can narrow down someone's house to a matter of square blocks with simply an IP address. You can even do this with free browser programs. Also, you fail to realize that with the zipcode, city, and state you can easily begin to extract information from the ignorant dot-heads that run support. With about 5-10 phone calls you can have enough information to recover the account.

PS: Please tell me you don't use that **** program "Smart WhoIS" from commview...

Tech support is a bunch of idiots. I have hacked live accounts myself using this technique. Once you have the important information all you have to do is act like an angry customer and do some smooth talking. These people are truly sad.

Now there are easier ways of which I know now but I say whatever works.
