Is it possible to stream .mkv files on the fly to a 360? I have Transcode360 and Tversity for other video formats, but neither of those will do .mkvs

How can I do this? I know I've heard of other people converting the .mkv into another video format...which I guess I could do but it adds an extra step in the process. If I were to chose this option, what is the best video format that will play on the 360 without losing quality?

Thanks in advance

I convert them to avi and the quality is pretty good for the file size. Just make sure you set the output resolution of the converter to the original resolution of the file, doing this offers little to no quality loss, and it takes about 30-50% less time to convert it.

You can't stream .mkv. Its unsupported currently. Convert it to wmv-hd

Transcode it!

Yeah I actually searched forever on the net last night and came across a program that's supposed to do all the conversions and whatever for you, but I haven't been able to test it yet I've been too busy. I guess I'll report back with what I find out

Re: How to Stream .mkv files?

I can help you with this.

Here it is.

Mkv is not the greatest video format in the world if you try to convert it the quality even if the settings are maxed may and may not work depending on the quality of the file.

here is a great way to get the best quality out of this file doing this method will get stereo and surround sound quality sound.

step one.

convert the video into mpeg-2 max settings tell your video converter to convert it into high quality stereo sound.

Step two.

convert the file into mpeg-4 with high quality sound.

Step three.

copy to a fat 32 formatted device then watch on your 360.

Video plays fine off of a usb thumb stick i ran this experiment my self with a dummy video that my freind incoded in mkv.

the reason for the multi step convertion is so that the quality doesn't suffer.
