World of Warcraft UI Addons and mods

As most of you no i havent been nearly as active as i used to be, but lately i started playing World of Warcraft, and i loved the concept of customizing the way you want your UI (User Interface) to look. So i tried almost every Compilation Suite there was to offer.

Ive tried the following:
Mazzle UI (Sadly no longer works after the 2.4 patch)
Spartan UI v2 (great compilation but only a beta and is still buggy)
Hal's UI
Outcasts UI
Mirage UI (insomniax recompilation)

Ive also created a custom UI which is what most people decide to do but i dont recommend it. But doing that usually requires basic knowledge of setting up the Addon in place.

The Compilation Suites are people who basically put all these useful addons together for you to use and download. Now on some of these they can get up to 100's of addons. Some of them you will never use, but you wont even no they are there if you dont use them.

If you decide you do not want to use a compilation suite thats fine, but i would highly recommend these addons. They help you with quests, allow you to see the whole map ect.

Here is a link to the site were you download them. Theres a big download button on the left hand side with pictures for you to view
Quote:
WoWInterface Downloads : Quest/Leveling Mods : LightHeaded

This has helped me so much with quests, my #1 addon

Note: This addon is NOT included in Mirage UI
Quote:
WoWInterface Downloads : Chat Mods : WIM (WoW Instant Messenger)

Called WIM, used for whispers of /w
Note: This addon is included in Mirage UI
Quote:
WoWInterface Downloads : Map Mods : Cartographer

Cartographer, lets you see the whole map and shows you recommended levels for zones instances and raids. Also has a map for Raids!!
Note: This addon is NOT included in Mirage UI
Since 2 out of the 3 above aren't included in Mirage UI to add them just
1. Go into wherever your world of Warcraft folder is
2. Enter the Interface folder
3. In there you sould see a folder called Addons, now if you have already installed Mirage UI and followed the Mirage UI installation (to find LedMirage's installation tutorial look farther down the post) then you should see a ton of folders already in there or if you have not installed it yet it does not make a difference
4. Drag the contents of the zip file, or Addon into the Addon folder (Make sure you drag the folder or folders not the insides of folder (some addons have more than one folder to drag over, such as cartographer)
5. Launch WoW and log in but dont click "Enter World" (or sign into your toon). Go the bottom left hand corner, there should be an addon button. Click it then click enable all and check the check box that says "Load out of date addons"

I hope that was a simple enough and easy enough.

Currently i am using a compilation suite called Mirage UI plus an additional few addons that are above. Its a very simple one that works very well and has plenty of very useful addons.

All credit for Mirage UI goes to LedMirageClick the image to open in full size.

MIRAGE UI COMPILATION
(Previously known as the 'Insomniax Recompilation')
Version 2.4.01, April 2nd, 2008
Created and maintained by Eduardo "LedMirage" Lucero
=================================================

Thank you for downloading the Mirage UI Compilation, I sincerely hope you enjoy it as much as I have and that it makes your gaming experience a better one Click the image to open in full size.

The MUI compilation is intended to be as easy and simple to setup and as user friendly as possible, it compiles some of the best user interface modification for World of Warcraft and it has changed a lot since the first version I released back in December of 2004 however the quality, attention to detail and commitment to our online community remains the same.

While a I put a lot of work and time into maintaining and improving this compilation including some minor coding and artwork please do not forget that all the individual mods that make up the compilation come from many talented and different authors; for us mod authors credit for our work is more than often the only thing we will ever receive, please do not forget to give proper credit where it's due, taking credit for someone else's work is not only uncool and rude, it's demoralizing and will only be detrimental in the development of free add-ons.

A big thank you goes out to each and every contributor in the mod community and a special thanks to all the authors whose work has been a part of this compilation. Thanks guys!

P.S. Those of you who have helped out with words of encouragment, compliments and even donations, you know who you are, a big special thanks goes out to you!

HOW YOU CAN HELP
=================================================
There are many ways in which you can help make the compilation a better package, here are a couple of examples of what other users have done:

1. Download the compilation in all the major WoW UI Mod Websites, add it to your favorites and cast your vote.

This helps promote the compilation, specially for new users. A special note here is that this compilation has been around since December 2004 but all statistics were reset after WoW version 2.0 was released, in addition the compilation went through a name change and I also host the file directly from my own website site December 2006. The result is ratings and numbers of downloads nowhere near indicative of its popularity - but clearly there's a LOT of you out there who continue to use it.

2. Help out users in need of assistance with compilation issues in other websites and redirect them to the official forum of the MUI Compilation (http://ledmirage.net)

3. Participate in the official MUI Compilation forums (http://ledmirage.net), we have a very active and relatively sane community who is more than willing to help out even it's regarding issues outside of the MUI compilation.

4. Give your feedback in the forums, this is where I get to find out wheter you love a new change or you just can't stand it, just remember to be civil and constructive about it!

5. I do not require monetary donations but if you are so inclined to help out I definitely will more than appreciate your contribution, those of you who have helped have not only made me happier, you have literally saved our butts during most of 2007 and early 2008 as both my wife and I found ourselves unemployed, thank you very much!!! My personal Paypal account to which you can send any and all donations is: LedMirage[AT]woh.rr.com

6. Don't forget that this is a compilation and there are many authors involved, any and all of the above suggestions apply for them to, show us your support, we don't mind, in fact it keeps us going Click the image to open in full size.

Thanks for your support!

INSTALLATION
=================================================
A lot of time and effort is put into making sure the initial default settings are as tolerable and user friendly as possible, however only new users (or clean installations) would have noticed this; if you are an advanced user then use the Quick Installation method, otherwise you should use the Clean Installation method, both are explained below.

4/02/2008: IMPORTANT, all ACE dependant mods do not include external libraries, this drastically reduces loading time and the amount of files on your PC, however, you must absolutely make sure to completely empty up your ..\Interface\AddOns\ folder prior to extracting the files in the compilation to avoid complications.

Quote:
Clean Installation (Basic Users):

Use this method if you are new to mods and do not understand how mods work in World of Warcraft, this is the recommended procedure.
1. Exit the game

2. Delete all the contents of your ..World of WarcraftInterface folder

3. Make a Backup of your ..World of WarcraftWTF folder, you only need to do this if you want to have a backup of data from mods previously installed, for example Gatherer, Map Notes, etc.

4. Delete your ..World of WarcraftWTF folder

5. Delete your ..World of WarcraftCacheWDB folder

6. Launch the game without any mods installed and log into the game with one of your characters

7. Exit the game

8. Extract all the files from the Mirage UI compilation Zip file making sure to use folder names and point to your root World of Warcraft folder.

9. Launch the game
Quote:
Quick Installation (Advanced Users):

Use this method if you have a good understanding of how mods work in World of Warcraft and can easily solve common mod conflict issues on your own.
1. Exit the game

2. Delete all the contents of your ..World of WarcraftInterface folder

3. Extract all the files from the Mirage UI compilation Zip file making sure to use folder names and point to your root World of Warcraft folder.

4. Launch the game

Those are all good, quest helper is almost the same as lightheaded but i consider it better. It gives you coordinates and people tell you what quests you should do at the same time bc there close. And were you get these quests ect. They also tell you how many poeple you should get together ect.

Plus mirage ui has stuff like how much an item costs and enter it directly when your about to auction something

Tells you what you got when you recieve mail

Tells you weather an item is a quest item or what...

Tells you what an item will disenchant to rarely most likely ect..

just trust me mirage ui plus the ones i posted at the top are awsome addons
