The only thing you can do is add applications, emulators and such via the Homebrew channel. Which apparently you have because you post about it everywhere.

Now you can run a backup loader through the homebrew channel. You can install a backup loader channel. I tried burning a agem with Nero, but wouldn't work. It was a compressed ISO. I could tell it was 4.38 GB, but when I went to uncompress it said no archive found.

I don't know how stable that backuploader is, or if it has malicious code (has been done in the past) so I'm gonna stick with chipping. I know it is based off of GeckoOS. Also they still haven't found a way to hack the Drive speed to 6x (like it normally is) so games that run off this have slower loading times, and in games like Guitar Hero, will lag.

Hi there just got a mod chip put in my wii it's a d2pro solderless chip. I have read the insturctions on how to burn wii games and am using verbatim dvd-r discs but i keep getting a read error when i put them in the wii. I have tried burining at different speeds with no luck. Anyone got any ideas as to why it's not working?

Thank you all for the many useful postings.

I just got my wii modded. unfortunately, the 'pro' i paid to do it didn't tell me what chip he used. he just warned me not to do any update..., or my wii will get bricked.

I found this software called WUM which will prevent the update prompt. What do you know about WUM? Does it really work? Is there any other way to prevent a modded Wii turning into a brick? I have two little kids playing it. The last thing I want is for them to insert some new games and brick the system.

Any inputs will be greatly appreciated!

Hey man, I'll be happy to help you. This "professional" should have told you what modchip he used. I would ask him. He also doesn't know what he is talking about, no updates will brick your Wii. I've never heard of WUM, I assume it stands for Wii Update Manager. Might as well try it, no harm could be done. Are you running the homebrew channel?

Carson,

Thanks for your response. Since I posted I have tried a couple updates:
1. from connecting to wifi (wiiconnect),
2. from the Mario Striker's game.
The Wii is still working, so I don't know what the 'pro' is talking about.

A friend of mine was the one who took it to this pro oversea .. No phone #, no email. So I can't ask what kind of chip. I supposed I can try to open it up and look at it ... Is it difficult to access the chip?

I am not running any homebrew, and will not. I just don't want the Wii to die....

Reading from some postings, I guess there's a possibility to brick / semi-brick if the update is done by using out-of-region games. Is that true? If it is, then I'll just avoid using out-of-region games. I don't care about foreign games so this is not a problem for me.

Thanks.

Overseas Pros... never a good idea. haha. I know you can Semi Brick a Wii, but out of region games don't even do that. Just stay up to date and they won't even prompt you to update. And if you did semi-brick it, you can fix it easily. Fully bricking it is nearly impossible, and only people testing out their homebrew code run that risk.

Carson,

Thanks for the response.

At the time I didn't know there's this bricking issue. The last mod that I did was on PS1 and it's so easy !!! (oh I feel so outdated). After the mod chip was installed, I went and did some readings on the forums and found out about this 'bricking' issue... To add to it, the mod chip installer gave me some warning (via my friend) which made my worry worst. I told myself 'o ohh...'

But thanks for your information. Definitely a great relief.

A couple more questions:
1. when you say 'stay up to date' - how do you do that? Just have the Wii connected to wifi and download the updates? I did the last one, so I am up to version 3.4U now...
2. is there a thread / forum section dealing with semi-brick?

Thanks a whole bunch!!!

so what u mean is if u completely deleted the wii game iso after u've burned a working backup disc & then u suddenly change your mind & decided to burn another backup using the backup disc that u burned earilier, your pc drive will not read right (unless u've a LG-drive) & that lead to another frustrating download for that particular iso in order to burn it again?

does this site Wiiso - Powered by vBulletin use something like rapidshare to host the iso or it's some kind of torrent site tracker, i'd like to know b4 i register becoz i like using my utorrent for downloading & btw, how come no edit button...
