WiiKey Short Wire Install Guide

I made this tutorial to hopefully prevent Less damaged Wiikeys and

Wii’s.

Theres a few reasons to use my shortwire method:

1. It’s the cleanest looking method
2. The wires are short for a good connection
3. It holds the wiikey inplace while you solder
4. Since theres no wires to route, less chance of a short.
5. Because I said so!...lol

OK now lets start off with the tools needed:

1. 15 watt soldering iron w/grounded tip
2. .015 dia. Silver bearing solder
3. 30 awg Kynar wire
4. Exacto knife
5. Mini wire cutter (optional but recommended)
6. Flux paste

The rest of the tools in the pic are for taking taking the wii apart..ect..ect

Ok now lets start with cutting six 1 ½ inch strips of kynar

The easiest way to strip kynar is to hold one end of the wire on a table and press an exacto knife down while spinning it with your fingers.

Ok now we need to add flux to the wii’s solder points/pads

Use the tooth pick to dab a tiny amount of flux on to each pad

Some people have asked if it is nessary to add solder to the pads(tinning) the answer is no,theres more then enough solder on the wii’s pads already, and we are gonna tin the wires instead.

To tin the wires we are gonna put a tiny bead of solder onto the soldering iron and touch the wire to it.

But before we do that we need to tin the tip of the iron to insure a nice bead will form onto the tip.

The way we do this is using a wet sponge or paper towel, we put alittle solder onto the tip and then wipe it off with the wet sponge or paper towel.

Now lets put a bead on it.

Now to transfer that bead onto the wire.

Now lets place it onto one of the wii’s pads and since the flux is some what sticky it should help prevent it from sliding off the pad as you hold it in place.

Dont forget to clean the irons tip with the wet sponge/paper towel.

Now while holding the wire onto the pad, quickly touch it with the tip of the iron.

Now clean the irons tip and and tin the next wire.

Keep repeating the process until all six wires are soldered.

Ok now all wires are soldered.

Now using and angled pick, mini screwdriver, safety pin, or any small pointy object ,gently lift all wires so there standing straight up.

With the wires standing up, gently lower the chip, feeding the two top wires through the holes on the wiikey chip, and placing it down onto the wii’s pad area.

Now that the wiikey is in place use your mini wire cutter to cut off the excess wire.

Click the image to open in full size.

Now using your pick, mini screwedriver,needle..ect..ect gently fold the protruding wire over the pad, pressing down so it hugs to the wiikey pad, and apply a dab of flux.

Click the image to open in full size.

Now clean your tip and apply a small bead of solder, and quickly touch the iron to the wiikeys pad.

Click the image to open in full size.

Now that its soldered let move onto the next pad.

Cut ,fold ,flux, and solder the next pad.

Click the image to open in full size.

Now that we have a few soldered we can cut, fold, flux the rest.

Click the image to open in full size.

Now lets solder the rest of the pads.

Ok were done!

Now its time to put everything back together ,burn wiikeys setup disc

and see if it works.
