| Novice | Re: How to mod a WII (NEW TUT WITH 3.4 fix) Thanks for the tutorial ninja! I got everything setup without a hitch and am enjoying my wii even more. I followed the tutorial and downgraded to 3.2 thinking I had to (and from reading else that 3.2u was better for homebrew compatibilty) I then read the rest of this thread and found that downgraded wasn't necessary. I want to know how I can safely update back to 3.4u Would I need to do the update and go through all the steps again? Do I update from the wii system menu or from the hombrew channel using the firmware downgrader tool? Any help or info is greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

| Mandinga ![]() | Re: How to mod a WII (NEW TUT WITH 3.4 fix) Wow calm down kid. I have a new baby here and dont have the time like I used to for helping out on this type of thing. I only get to check it at night. Anyway go ahead and just upgrade your firmware to 3.4 and run through these steps. I fixed the tut so there should be no more confusion. Thanks. What you need Wii_Fix_Tools.zip -- FileFactory.com - free file hosting -- IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad - DONT ASK ME FOR THIS FILE!!!!!! You can find it on google. Step 1: Update your Wii to the latest version. Step 2: Go into the homebrew channed and open wad manager. Step 3: Hit the A button and the wii will read the sd card. Hit A again and it should bring up the wads on the card. Go to IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad and hit the + button. Once you have installed it hit the home button and the wii will restart. Step 4: Go to the hombrew channel again and open up (custom manager.) Load up the SD card wads again and go to (cIOS_Fix.wad.) Hit the + button again and it will install. Hit the home button again and it will restart your WII. (If this will not install go ahead and install it using the (WAD MANAGER) Instad of the (Custom Manager.) Step 5: Go into the hombrew channel again and open up (IOS Downgrader.) Follow the simple instructions and wait for it to download. STEP 6: Again go into the homebrew channel and open up (Shop IOSs51.) Select Yes to install IOs51 by hitting A. Also select yes to install the IOS patch. SELECT NO AND DO NOT INSTALL THE WII SHOP CHANNEL. Step 7: Open up homebrew channel again and go into wad manager. Install the new WAD MANAGER 1.3. This makes it to where the WII can again load wads and all homebrew apps will work properly now. Now if you use “WiiGator” or the “Backup Loader”, using the Homebrew Channel, install ‘cIOS Installer’. This updates the ‘cIOS_Fix’ that was previously installed. I was making a little joke when I said "Thanks for nothin!!!" I was really says thanks to user Nothinbeter2do for posting a reply. I didnt mean for it to be taken that way, I guess thats a bad joke. Thanks again Ninja!!! I remember what it was I read. "The cIOS downgrader allows you to upgrade or downgrade to the ideal firmware version which is 3.2. The reason 3.2 is so popular is partially because versions after this one had the Trucha bug fixed, and almost as importantly ver 3.2 is required to run Starfall. Starfall is important because it is at this time one of the only ways to fix a partially bricked Wii. It is also handy for skipping disk updates." Can starfall be installed on 3.4 system? Is there another tool available that we can use to block disk updates? Or is the only work around by booting through Gecko? I rather be able to block updates and do them when I feel inclined to do so. Any thoughts? I think I'm going to go back to 3.2... Last edited by CiRiS; 03-21-2009 at 01:10 AM. | 7S Enthusiast | Re: How to mod a WII (NEW TUT WITH 3.4 fix) Sorry if this has already been asked, All I want to mod my wii for is to play back up games, as my sister takes mine out and just leaves them around and yea they get scratched pretty quick. So if I don't downgrade to 3.2 can i still play backup games (is that what the homebrew channel does) Sorry if this a really obvious question I'm sorta a n00b at modding a wii |

| 7S Enthusiast | Re: How to mod a WII (NEW TUT WITH 3.4 fix) hey, i was just wondering if an "optiarc dvd +- rw AD-5560A ATA device" will work to back up wii games, it is in my laptop which is an inspiron 1525 if that helps at all. My xp has a benq dvd burner. Will either of these two work or will I have to buy a new one to do this? |

| Novice ![]() | Re: How to mod a WII (NEW TUT WITH 3.4 fix) If you already have Homebrew channel installed you can downgrade. If not you have to wait. 2 new exploits have been found they are just being authored right now. One doesnt require any game but has been abandoned as of now. The other requires Super Smash Bros Brawl from what Ive heard. Just have to wait |

| Novice | Re: How to mod a WII (NEW TUT WITH 3.4 fix) Hello, I'm having a hard time right now. Here is what I did in order and state I was. I was in stock 3.4U, so I follow the guide like this: 1) Check cd version and download twilight 0 2) installed the twilight hack, boot then installed homebew channel 1.0.1. At the sametime, I installed DVDX and bootmii in IOS. 3) reboot and ran homebrew channel. Greeted with an update message, which I did. 4) I then load Bootmii and take a backup of my nand. 5) Load back hackmii, uninstall bootmii from IOS and installed in boot2 6) Reload straight into bootmii and take another nand backup 7) Reload in wii system 8) Scroll down to downgrade instruction to 3.2. 9) Download fixtool zip and a torrent containing ISO16-64-V257.wad 10) (skipped step 1 that said upgrade to latest version, which would bring me to 4.0) 11) start homebrew, ran wad manager 1.4 and installed ISO16-64-v257, reboot 12) Run custom wad manager, install cios fix.wad, reboot 13) run IOS downgrader, it init ISFS and Network (even get ip adresse), start download/install of multiple IOS, they all failed at downloading ticket with error ret = -1 I then find on the net an offline way to do so. It make me download a file and new system menu and now when I go to system, I'm on 3.2U, so it worked. Since I'm now back on 3.2, I switch back to 3.2 instruction. 1) Download the backup loader 3 2) Run CIOS Installer, same problem, it fail download with "error making http request" "failed to allocate temp buffer for encrypted content" (tried both 0.3 beta and gamma). I've read on the net that I need to create a 0000001 folder in the root of the sd, which I did create and changed nothing. I know the net is working cause I sent messages to a friend, did network testing and the wii is even telling me there is an update. I tried any title deleter to erase files and reset to begining. But it's even worst. When starting, it failed to informe Wii that he is god (error ES_Identify ret = -1017), after that, it failed at ISFS_OPEN, ES_OpenConetnt, ISFS_delete... well simple, the only succesfull operation in the load screen is "initializing filesystem driver". It also failed to detect the region. When running CIOS Installer, it says: ios version 00240c12 Now, I'm stuck at trying to install CIOS to be able to install backup loader. Thanks |
