    Xenon JTAG FreeBoot Install/Update 12611

If you are like me and tried every program and way to update or jtag your Xbox 360 to new dash 12611 and had no success. All I would receive is a black screen. Xbox booted up fine but then it just sat there. Hopefully I can help with some of this. All props go to ChaosChief as he showed me the way. I hope this helps somebody out there.
    You must have:

    • Your original nand with CPU key
    • Flash360
    • XeXMenu
    • Usb Stick
    • Easy FreeBoot

For updating your 9199 freeboot image: First you want to still have your Xbox flashed with the freeboot 9199 image. If you were like me and returned it to stock and tried rejtagging it and it still didn’t work, then you will want to reinstall your 9199 freeboot image. Once that image is flashed your xbox should be working fine. Go to step 2.

For fresh JTAG install (not update): You need to jtag your console with the 9199 freeboot image. I used Jtag Tool 2.01 as its easy to use and uses 9199 dash. Make sure its not the new Jtag Tool. Now just follow all these instructions and completely write the 9199 freeboot image. You DO want 9199 freeboot image on your xbox and working. After you complete this, your Xbox should be working, jtagged, and have 9199 dash. Go to step 2.

    2. Now using Easy Freeboot 12611 GUI click “create image.” Once the dialog box pops up, you select your original/stock nand. After you select the nand, a box opens to enter your CPU key. After you enter your CPU key, Easy Freeboot will open 2 command prompt windows and after each one you simply hit “enter.” Once done it will ask you to save your new 12611 image.

    3. Once you have your new 12611 image named “updflash.bin” you want to transfer that and flash360 onto the root of your USB stick and insert that into your Xbox USB port. Start your xbox and go into XexMenu . Once in XexMenu, select flash360.xex and it will start.

    4. You want to follow all dialogs to write “updflash.bin” to the nand. It will ask if you want to write keeping your current KV and Config or write without keeping your KV and Config. You MUST write KEEPING your current KV and Config. At one point it also stated that my KV was zeropaired and asked if I wanted to continue, you just select continue. Let Flash360 do its thing and follow all the on screen instructions to finish the flash and after it will shutdown automatically. DO NOT shut it down.

Now remove the USB drive once the console shuts down and power back on your Xbox. BRAVO! You should have a jtagged console on 12611 Dashboard.

Please feel free to give any feedback. I only tested with using the original nand and did not experiment with creating the 12611 image from the 9199 freeboot or from a dump of the current nand. It very well might be possible to use either of those.

I had 9199 on mine before i tried to flash it to the new dash, didnt take and the xbox did nothing, erased my nand, and wrote a new image to it. unsure what image i put on it this time, things got messy trying to fix my xbox. xell will boot from the eject button, but nothing else works, normal boot gives my the e79 error. one of the .bin files i have on my computer shows the 9199 dash. should i flash that back with lpt first before tring to update again?

Thanks Monster appreciate that. Just trying to share my knowledge from what Ive learned from others

You definantly want to have the 9199 freeboot image on your xbox and working before you update. Once that image is working. Create the 12611 image using easyfreeboot and your original nand file. I have not experimented with creating the 12611 image from your freeboot image but it might be possible. Once image is created, flash the 12611 image only using flash360.

    Good Luck!

woohoo. got my xbox working again, well back to the 9199 dash at least. now to move onto the 12611 dash.

i updated my online xbox to the 12611 dash, and i went ahead and used my hdd that i share between the 2. Do i need to remove files from that hdd before i attach it to my jtag? dont want to risk updating to the non modded dash,

    thanks

i should be able to go into the hdd and remove the system update file before i attach it to my jtag right? removes the update from the hdd but still on the updated console. i need my hdd to run xexmenu.

You don't need your original NAND.
You can use a backup of your current NAND.

    Thanks..I appreciate the feedback!

Yes you can transfer your HDD back and forth to stock and JTAG xbox to run XEX, I was worried about the same thing but have done it multiple times.

alright... i have tried to open the easy freeboot prog a million times on xp out of that it worked maybe twice using donor files asked to save and then did not save each time only one cmd box opened... the bigger one... tried the win7 version on annother computer... using original nand image only one cmd box opens. the smaller one.. and says press any key to continue never asks to save... however i deleted the nand.bin and after that small box opens it reappears. but no updflash... i have 9199 on my jtag and have done it a million times but no luck with this program... any help would be amazing and possibly save the lives of my pc and jtag. thanks

finally built image... now just e71 everytime i try to run flash360?

I try it and everytime I turn it on after the "update" it boots into xellous. Then I just change the updflash to 9199 and it works.

I recently purchase a Xenon JTAG unit that already has dash 9199 installed and I want to upgrade to the new 12611 dash. The only issue is since the unit was already JTAGd when I purchased it, I don't know if it has freeboot image or XBR image currently installed. Since all the upgrade guides require freebot 9199 image, is there any way to determine what my unit has currently installed (XBR or freeboot)?

Well you said it is already jtagged with 9199 dash correct? If so, you can dump your current nand and create the 12611 image out of that dump. You do need the CPU key. Then follow my instructions above to install it.
