So I came to discovering this fix through quite a journey this week. I made two posts regarding this issue and didn't get much feedback so I assumed nobody has this problem really. I'll quote my first two posts below so you know the back story and some of the steps I took to figure this out.
First post:
So I bought an Xbox One bundle off Ebay for $200.00. Pretty good deal but the seller states it gets stuck at updating so it was listed for parts. I thought this would be an easy fix since updating usually has multiple possibilities why it didn't work. The console comes into today and I hook it up and discover that it gets to 15% of the update then brings up "Cannot finish update, there is a problem blablabla" options are try again, check network, or turn off console. Ive tried power cycling then restarting the update: no go. Switching from wired to wireless back to wired network with power cycles in between: no go. I look up some fixes around the web and find the offline update tool bulls*** from Xbox.com. The options are: factory reset, OSUDT1, or OSUDT2. The console is stuck on the day one update so there is no way to check out the dashboard so I got the console OS info using the trigger and bumpers trick. My OS is at (6.2.10698.0 (xb_rel_1403.140301-2200) fre) which would mean I need the OSUDT2 file. I tried that but it goes to the E101 screen. I tried the OSUDT1 file but still goes to the E101 screen. But strangely I can use the factory reset file and the console resets/updates just fine and lets me do the initial setup only to crash at 15% of the update and back to square one. I finished the steps on the Xbox.com website to be led to "I need to send my console to Microhard for repairs". The only problem is the warranty on the device conveniently ran out February 27th, which is probably why the person sold it on eBay. In other words I can't get a free repair but I can pay a small fee of $115 to repair the console or get a replacement if it cant be fixed.

So here's where I have come to the almost all knowing forum for help, and advice in this matter. Options I have thought of are: selling the console on Craigslist for a small profit as the console appears to be a day one "brand new" console. Buying a new console from Game Stop, Walmart, etc, and switching out their console with mine and taking it back. Keeping the console in hopes that there may be a current or future DIY fix for this error. Taking apart the console to see what I can find inside since the warranty is gone and the security sticker is now invalid so who gives a ****.

So now I ask you forum members: what would you do? Any advice on how to fix this or reciprocate my "loss". Any ideas on what causes this error and possible fixes?

The console has everything minus kinect and documents, and even has the controller play and charge kit, so its kinda worth some money. The console looks very very clean like they took it out, couldn't update, so they repacked it and sold it.

Thanks to anyone in advance for your input whether sarcastic, helpful, or whatever else. I know this is my first post, Ive been creeping in the shadows and finally decided to make an account and start contributing and being apart of the cool kids.
Second post:
So I dont know how many of you saw my other post about me buying an Xbox One that wont get past the day one update. (http://www.se7ensins.com/forums/threads/xbox-one-e101-error-help-or-advice.1303077/) Anyway the "offline update tool" wont work except to restore the console to factory defaults, the other two options bring up E101 error and requires microhard to repair the console. I got to thinking that maybe the E101 and other update errors were possibly caused by a bad hard drive (sectors, files, partitions, etc) so I decided to take apart my console and and hook the hard drive up to my computer to check it out. (BTW ive never seen any tuts on this but you can remove the warranty sticker without messing it up by using a heatgun for about 30 seconds then slowly peeling the sticker off with a knife or tweesers.)

Here is what the Xbox One HDD partitions look like on my computer:
uSZbvKp.jpg
Notice how microhard gives the "User Content" partition 364GB only. That means they are taking 136GB for their own use. Thats a huge chunk dont you think? About 19GB for updates ("System Update" + "System Update 2") which means a ton of planned updates in the future with tons of data. About 40Gb for "System Support", any ideas on what this would be used for? About 40Gb for "Temp Content" which I assume is temporary dashboard content or maybe unsaved Upload Studio clips, etc.

Here are the contents of each partition:
oAutf0G.jpg
Notice I have not showed the "System Update 2" and "User Content" partitions because they are empty. The 3 pictures on the left are the main "System Update" partition with the two subfolders (A and B, the other two pictures on the right are "System Support" and "Temp Content" folders. I tried copying all the partitions to a folder on my computer to back up the HDD in case I messed anything up but interestingly the "updater.xvd" file inside the "System Update" folder could not be copied because it was corrupt. This is what gave me an idea that this is the file that somehow applies the updates and since its corrupt this is maybe why I can't apply the day one update online or offline using the "Offline system update diagnostic tool". Also all the files inside folder "A" of the "System Update" folder could not be copied because they needed administrator privileges from what I assume is the Xbox One. Also what I noticed is my "A" folder and "B" folder don't match the files from the "Team Xecuter: Use any size hard drive for Xbox One Tut" hard drive files picture (below)
xbone_hdd_files.jpg
This also gives me an idea about why my update cannot be completed. I downloaded all the "Offline system update diagnostic tool" files from xbox.com so I'm hoping I can manually copy the correct update files from the downloads into my hard drive "System Update" folder and update it that way. The only thing that bothers me is the fact that my folder files dont match the team xecuter HDD files picture. I would love anybody's ideas on this thread about how I could get the update to work, or fixing the HDD files, or anything else useful with the information I have provided. Maybe someone could point out the HDD files I need to correct my HDD, or possibly upload their own HDD files so I could copy them to mine and hopefully fix it. Some useful notes: I have the Western Digital: WD5000LPVX hard drive in my Xbone. My OS version is: (6.2.10698.0 (xb_rel_1403.140301-2200) fre) but im still stuck on getting past the day one update. Anyway I hope the thread is helpful for anyone and hopefully helpful for me once we start to figure this problem out. Any advice, help, and comments are appreciated.
So now you know the backstory of my problem, I will now list the steps I took to solve the E101 error and recover my bricked console.

1: Purchased an Xbox one console from ebay for $200. It claimed it was stuck in updating so being sold for parts.

2. Receive Xbone in the mail and try to plug it in and update. It keeps getting stuck on 15% after many power cycles and attempts on wireless and wired network.

3. Discover the "Offline Update Diagnostic Tool" from Xbox.com. I attempt to use the "OSUDT1", "OSUDT2", and "Factory Reset" options. Only the "Factory Reset" option will work and the other two bring up an E101 error which can apparently only be solved by sending in my console to Microhard.

4. Sending in the console is a no go as my console conveniently lost warranty two weeks before I got it.

5. I took apart the console to check everything out and hooked the hard drive up to my computer using the "Xbox 360 Slim transfer cable"

6. I backed up all the partitions to my computer but some of the files in my "System Update" partition could not be copied because they were corrupted or need computer administrator privileges from what I assume is the Xbox One. The problem files were inside the "A" folder of the "System Update" partition and the "updater" file.

7. I checked the files from the OSUDT1 download and saw they matched the "A" folder files and the "updater" file inside the "System Update" partition. I tried to delete the "A" folder files and "updater" file but they could not be deleted because they were corrupt or needed higher privileges.

8. I formatted the "System Update" partition using NTFS and default allocation size to get rid of all the files.

9. I copied the "A" and "B" folders back into the partition and replaced the "A" folder files with the files from the "OSUDT1" folder. I took the "updater" file from the "OSUDT1" folder and placed it in the "System Update" partition next to the "A" and "B" folders.

10. I undocked the hard drive and reassembled my xbox one and plugged it along with a wired network connection to attempt the update. SUCCESS! The update reached 15% at which point I thought it would say problem updating again but it continued on and eventually finished and restarted to the dashboard.

Note: This was the day one update my Xbox one was failing on so this was the first time I saw the dashboard. So I know in my case the E101 update error was caused by corrupted "updater" file and possible corrupted "A" folder files. WOOOOOO!!!! Anything comments are greatly appreciated and I hope this helps everyone else with this problem. Feel free to link this anywhere you like but make sure to mention the credit to me, this post, and se7ensins. Thank you.

You actually don't need any special cable to hook the HDD into your computer, assuming you have a desktop. You can just plug it in like a regular hard drive. Otherwise, there are other options that are cheaper that connect a HDD to a USB port.

I enjoy the tutorial though, keep thinking outside the XBOX.

Im still having this problem but with an E100 error. I've checked the files on my desktop, used the OSUDT 2 file to replace the system files in both A & B along with the updater yet still no luck :frown:

Hey so I've been having the same issue, and now my HD has completely failed/died. I am trying to see if anyone has those xbox one system files, so that I can just format a new drive, load the files and put it back in the xbox and have it work again. would you guys be able to help or point me in the right direction ?
