When I was using Memorex on one computer 5 (at 1x 2x 2.4x) fails in a row - I changed computer and burned two in a row (and the computer only allowed a 4x write speed).
Also I ordered some more Verbatim and have not had a fail since (with 4+ burns) on the old computer.

Don't use memorex. Get Verbatim DVD+R DL Disks, they may be more expensive but its well worth it.

Burning speed depends on burning drive/chipset/hardware as well as the actual DVD, so unfortunately it might be trial and error. After a few coasters I've found that 2.4x works for Verbatim and 6x works for memorex consistently. Memorex seems a lot more picky, no other speeds worked for me.

This topic is like 9 months old, I'm pretty sure they don't need help with this anymore..

from what i've read on several different websites, Verbatim dvd's are the most reliable..
they don't fail that much, which is good, cause discs cost money, especially DL
I used Imation before, they worked great @ 4x
