I'm glad I get my money's worth out of an xbox. I'm not a big fan of spending 300 dollars every three years.

I agree, but then again change has the potential to be good.

Wonder if this is going to have any effect on future games published by square on consoles. :/

Not everyone has the urge to buy 300 dollars every so couple of years.

I understand what SE's is saying, but hey. They're still making money & PC gamers are still getting the best quality for VG's on PC.

three years? couple of years? lol, generations arent usually 3 years long! i completely agree! 7 years! its just getting silly now, i own both ps3 and 360 and i am bored of them! iv had 360 since release! 7 long years of the same stuff! come on! i want the next gen already! this should have been the year we at least got a glance of the next consoles at e3!

I agree. 7, 8, 9 and 10 years is too long. I think that they should release updated consoles every couple 2, 3 years this way at least they can kinda keep up with new hardware.

They also would need to make their consoles backwards compatible, So the people that don't buy the updated consoles can still play the newer games.

i think 5 years should be a generation lifespan myself... 7-10 is just far too long , the hardware is so dated now.

i can completely see this point, but considering im on xbox 7 (6 phats , 1 slim to date) its not like they havent cost me an arm and a leg! iv never owned so many of one console. for the record, got my ps3 on the day the slim came out and its still fine..

I understand making a console that lasts a long time, but I agree that 7 years is too long. That, and an Xbox 360 doesnt last 7 years. I have bought a total of 4 new consoles. I have had 14 in all because I like messing with them but they all die eventually.I bought the halo Reach slim the day it came out and 1 year later, literally days after the warenty ran out, parts started to break. I bough a new laser to fix it the first time and then a new PCB the second time. I still havent bought another wifi card to fix the one that died on it. We need a new console more often than 7 years. Look at apple for example. They come out with new iPhones every year. In no way are they comparable to Xboxs what you do with them but still. Apple updates the things on the iPhone to make it better and faster for the user. Microsoft has made it smaller. Thats it. It might be a little faster and look cooler but its still a turd compared to what it could be. They sell the cheepest console they can make and get it out as fast as they can. I agree with Square Enix that the consoles need to come out sooner but I'm not sure they should have been the ones to say it.

i think they want to expand the life because it takes them so long to make games

yea games can take a while, obviously. but that isnt the reason, games have always been in the boat. final fantasy 7 wasnt made in a year, niether was ocarina of time...

Its square enix. They want keep evolving games. They cant make games bigger/badder if their working on the same hardware. Keeping consoles around so long is really hurting the artistic views of the makers of the games. Sure, they can make better things on pc, but not everyone can afford a 2000 dollar computer. More people can afford a 300 dollar console every 4 years.

yes thats true , but if they wanna do more and more with games they need better hardware because it will eventually get boring or dull.

At this point I just want them to announce a new console. I *really* don't want to have to use a PC for gaming.

lets face it they are pushing the boundries with uncharted 3, heavy rain, gears of war 3 etc etc. theres not alot left to squeeze.
exactly. pcs are leagues ahead in terms of hardware, but the console gaming market is so much bigger so theyre being held back any way. more money in console games!¬

That's why I switched to PC really. It's either drop 300 every couple of year (excluding Xbox than add miscellaneous MSP and Gold Membership) or wait 7+ for something that's already being outmatched by PC. It felt like a losing battle to me.
