A Vita is $250, People spend alot more for Ipads and other Tablet devices. Everyone who is complaining about the Vita being overpriced is Ignorant. The only thing I think is overpriced is the proprietary memory cards but Amazon has them discounted by a generous margin (About 20%)
I so agree Evil Fefe. If you work full time and make money $250 is nothing to spend on a new "toy". People who are saying the vita is to much are people under 16 who have to ask their mom and dad for the money. lol
I'm not sure if you guys realize this or not, but when you are working full time and making money you usually have LOTS of expenses. Rent, college payments, outstanding debt, bills (water, electricity, cable), car payments, etc. So, just throwing $250 on an unproven system with crappy support is not exactly appealing. In reality, a $50 price cut can mean the difference between selling a million units and selling 20 million. A lot of it is psychological sure, but people have bills. Not to mention not everyone who is into gaming has a full time job. Times are tough, and not just in America. The fact of the matter is that for as long as they have been around, handheld systems have catered to kids and young adults. How many people do you see on the subway who are 30 or older using a 3DS or Vita? I don't see any. This is just my opinion, but I think people who say "Aw, X dollars is nothing for something if you work" are missing the point.
Good points, However $250 is nothing in today's market for technology. Phones, Computers, Tablets are all in that price range if not higher. Also the reason it's an "unproven system with crappy support" Is because people are not buying it because it's "Too expensive" For example I just bought a Asus N66U wireless router for $170, Technology isn't cheap It would be better if people got it early instead of waiting for a price drop, People need to realize it cost Sony $170 to manufacture 1 Vita. If everyone waits for a Price Drop how is the system going to sell, I don't want this thing to end up like the Dreamcast.
I agree with you there. I may not have all the expenses you listed above but I pay for my car, university etc... I guess Im just lucky enough to have a well paying job. If there is a demmand for these vitas though the price would not go down. Look at the iphone for example, demmand is still high for those phones so the price stays high.
the issue i have is the games costing so much when i could easily go purchase and ipad or android tablet and just spend tiny amount on games that have a whole load of hours of gameplay this is the only reason i think handheld consoles are irrelevant in todays market because of smart phones and tablets
As they said in the article, the demand may still be there. They are just looking at how to manufacture them for less money, thus saving the end consumer money. And Evil, the reason it is an unproven system with crappy support is because the developers that decide to make games for the Vita just flat out refuse (as of late) to update them with necessary fixes. Wouldn't you think your Xbox or PS3 would fall victim to crappy support if most companies that made games for the systems did not fix the bugs?
The thing is, what does the Vita have that makes it worth $250? Since its release, how many games released have stood out? It lacks quality and it will continue to lack quality until cross-platform play is available. And unless they do something significant, that can fail also. They need to concentrate more on real games and not gimmicks which people use their mobile devices for.
Well the reason is because the system isn't selling so therefore games aren't selling. Why make and support games when there is not much revenue in it? it's not that the developers don't care it's that they can't care
I think games aren't selling, not only because they are lacklustre, but because they are too expensive. Also, with the announcement of PS1 games coming to the Vita, they are making it much more difficult for developers to create a game when Sony are neglecting them. I wish it wasn't like that. I love the Vita and what it can do, but it is not being used to its potential. It's the PS3 all over again.
I got a Vita a week after it came out in the USA (it was released Feb. 22, I got mine Feb. 29)...I didn't get any games until May when MK came out...and I wouldn't have gotten MK if my Xbox360 had not red ringed on me! MK is very "Scaled down" and it looks like something that could be on a tablet running Tegra 3 or the New iPad.....speaking of tablets, they are NOT taking over the gaming market.....most folks would prefer something with actual buttons....however, with devices such as the iCade, "real" gaming on a tablet is possible......however, I think the problem with the Vita is lack of 1st party PS Vita originals....Unit 13 is like the only "PSP Exclusive" I can think of....other games are ports, mobile device apps (FaceBook, Skype, Twitter, YouTube, Plants VS Zombies, Asphalt)....games such as Uncharted doesn't appeal to all gamers, and thats like the only intense graphic game they have on there....maybe once Assassins Creed is released, and sadly, Call of Duty, it will make a better impact.....if they ever release a jaw-dropping God of War for Vita, I may consider getting another one.....I sold the one I had.....I got a 3DS and there are actually more games I like on 3DS than the Vita....
Maybe in Australia they are too expensive, Here they are $40. I agree with the Lackluster games, However Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Disgaea 3 are amazing and some great stuff is on the way. We will see alot more developers making games when there are more Vita's sold. Right now I think it hasn't even passed 2 Million units sold Free phone with a 2 Year contract. The phone itself without the contract would cost you about $200 maybe more
Every time. I really need to start using "*sarcasm*" in my sarcastic posts. OT: Yes, true but you can get just about anything for a good price on the interwebs. I saw the same phone I got for about $50 used online. Which is why I'll probably get a Vita off Craigslist sometime.
