Hi everyone I recently just found my old Xbox 360 Elite in storage and I have been wanting to JTAG a Xbox for years now but just simply didn't know how to start. All I want to do is host lobbies and do recoveries. Which is best for that JTAG or RGH? How do I start with this and what tips do you have for me? Thanks!

To do it yourself you'll need experience in both soldering and simple screw driver usage.

You'll need to find out what dashboard version you are on to figure out which exploit method is right for you.

Once you figure the dash version out, you'll need to buy the equipment; about a $75 expense for the average products. You can go full DIY/cheap on this, but the cheap chips are more complex to use, and the cheap SPI reader is difficult to program a chip (if required).

Both a JTAG/RGH achieve the same result, but use different methods to do so. So they can both do what you need them to do.

If you're looking for a tutorial, you'll need to tell me the dashboard version first. I can then get you a tutorial, item list, and approximate cost for the hardware. I will also need the motherboard revision for a proper tutorial.

Hi, sorry for the late reply I just woke up.

I do not need to worry about the soldering issue because I got someone on that who is experienced.

The dashboard version is 2.0.17349.0.

The Motherboard revision is Jasper v1/v2. Not sure how to tell if it is one of those version or it works with both. Please tell me if I it was an error.

Thanks for the help.

Jasper's do not have versions, but rather are classified based on the size of their NANDs. Big/Small block NANDs.

And with a 17349 dashboard, I would go with an RGH2 using a CR4XL or Matrix V3 or a Rev D (clone).
As for a NAND reader, I'd go with the JR Programmer V2.

(Copy pasta I have premade for people asking these questions)

CR4XL is the chip you'll want:

NAND reader you'll want is the JR-Programmer V2

Thanks for the response, I am very new to this and you helped a lot. How do I tell the NAND size? Also the PHAT NAND QSBs link is dead, will look it up. c:

Thanks for the headsup on the QSBs. They aren't needed, but if you've got an extra 15 bucks to spend, they make life VERY easy. And to determine the NAND size, you'll have to dump it. It doesn't matter as the installation is the same regardless of the NAND size.

A simple way to tell Nand size on Jaspers is to go to System / Storage in the M$ dash, if it doesn't have a MU or memory unit it's a 16Mb.

If there is a memory unit shown, and it's 214Mb then you have a 256Mb Nand and if it's 451Mb, then you have a 512Mb Nand.

Oh, I see. Thank you. Are you okay with me PMing you from time to time if I have a question?

And this is a compatible QSB correct?

Yep, that's fine to PM me. I'm happy to help!

If I don't respond within a few hours, I'd recommend making a thread though. Random MIA periods because of real life issues, but there's lots of eager help among the 360 forums.

And yes, those QSBs should work. I've updated my copy-pasta post too . Thank you for finding those, as I did a quick search which turned nothing up.

Yeah same thing with the search.

Thanks by the way!

Okay so basically mine is a 16mb since there is no MU just the HDD?

Yay! Thanks you guys.
Just going to give you further links to read.

Here's some of the best up-to-date guides which describe all there is to know about JTAG/RGH/R-JTAG consoles. They will answer all of the big and/or small questions you may have (keep in mind, R-JTAG kits and older RGH chips such as the CoolRunner Rev C may be difficult to come across because Team Xecuter stopped producing them. However, now that the new CR4 chip is out, users can now utilize the R-JTAG and RGH 2.0 exploits with ease):

If you do choose to buy or build a JTAG/RGH/R-JTAG, watch all of the videos in this playlist in order once you have the console in your possession with the proper hardware installed. The videos are easy-to-follow tutorials which will teach you how to set up all of the proper software and homebrew that will you ever need:

Thank you for the information, I appreciate it. Right now I am taking out my motherboard and going to order the parts ASAP. c:
