I am on a Mac..... BOO. version 10.5.8 with Java version 1.5.0_26 (Just updated Java)
I am having the worst time trying to install ModLoader and NOT getting a black screen, or a frozen partial loading screen. I am not stupid... for the most part. I know how to follow directions but I can't seem to get any ModLoader to work. I am on version 1.6.6 but have the .jar files for 1.6.4 and 1.5. I have tried to install specific ML for the 1.6.4 and 1.6.6 (so they said) but to no avail... I am doing it all manually without the terminal. (command prompt for windows users). I don't see a point in using the terminal unless you just want to be specific... IDK. I find manual to be easier. These are the steps I follow:

    • Extract minecraft.jar with unArchiver
    • Delete original minecraft.jar file or backup (now I only have an uncompressed folder with .jar extension) (game still runs)
    • Open minecraft.jar folder and copy contents of downloaded ModLoader into minecraft.jar folder (this part is weird cuz I have downloaded multiple files and they all seem to be inconsistent on the ammount of files AND file names... I don't know EXACTLY what I am needing to replace.)
    • ALT 1: Run minecraft without compressing folder back down (Does not run, black screen or freezes at load screen: this SHOULD work since it worked before I copied files to it.)
    • ALT 2: Compress folder and run minecraft (Same experience from previous step)
Minecraft SHOULD run with just ModLoader installed correct?

    well, theres 2 things:
    1. delete the meta-inf folder. should work if you want help doing it the manual aim me jimhalpert7s, i have mac and i install diff mods every other day lol just to try as much out as i can ^_^

    or

    2. dont do it that way, its the diffucult way, run the bash commands to open mctp folder, paste the classes where the others are, then bash close it. it automatically deletes the metainf

i dont have the bash command off my memory, i normally just go to my bookmarked page at minecraft forums, if you dont want to wait for the site to be up, go with option 1

My bad, I got overwhelmed on writing the steps. lol. I DO delete the entire MEAT-INF file after I copy the contents of the ModLoader folder, I ran across one read me that said I only needed to delete the MOJANG_C files leaving the MANIFEST.MF file... IDK...

I have seen the terminal command lines where you make a mctmp folder, copy the contents to it manually, then run the cmd to copy mctmp to the minecraft.jar file, but it fails that cmd every time.

Why is copying files and using a rar program the hard way?

its not the hard way, theres just more steps involved, what error did the cmd give you when you pasted it in terminal?

I've got AIM installed, might help this out...

Ok ,that didnt work. I need a good download for ModLoader v 1.6.6

    This is so annoying...

I did this exactly and to no avail:
    • cd ~
    • mkdir mctmp
    • cd mctmp
    • jar xf ~/Library/Application\ Support/minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar
    • Went to this URL and downloaded the 1.6.6 Mod Loader : http://www.4shared.com/get/Ex7tx33S/ModLoader_166__MCsitepl_.html
    • Manually copied and pasted / overwrite the files inside the Mod Loader folder to the mctmp folder created through the terminal
    • rm META-INF/MOJANG_C.*
    • jar uf ~/Library/Application\ Support/minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar ./
    • cd ..
    • rm -rf mctmp
Then ran Minecraft and I get the black screen, or the 3/4 loaded loading bar that is froze. Can someone give me a good download of Mod Loader for 1.6.6 and tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Go to Application and open terminal.app
Type in the following line by line (after each line press ENTER)
    cd ~
    mkdir mctmp
    cd mctmp
    jar xf ~/Library/Application\ Support/minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar
Go back outside the terminal, you will see mctmp folder was created (by second line command “mkdir mctmp”).
Copy all the files in there and back to terminal
Type in these commands again line-by-line
    rm META-INF/MOJANG_C.*
    jar uf ~/Library/Application\ Support/minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar ./
    cd ..
    rm -rf mctmp
    You’re done

I've done that. Can you be more specifid on the files I 'copy'? I copy the files from the Mod Loader file and paste them into mctmp correct? if so, then thats what ive done. guess I need a good clean set of files.

<div id="myEventWatcherDiv" style="display:none;"></div><div><br></div><div>EDIT: I just copied everything you said and placed in terminal. Those commands worked. I copied the files from the link you gave me into the mctmp folder. I copied the rest of the commands you gave me. Ran Minecraft and got a 3/4 visible screen saying "Updating Mineraft" "Done Loading" and a loading bar with about 9/10 of the bar filled. It is frozen. This is my dilemma. 2nd and 3rd time I try to run Minecraft, I get an instant black screen.</div>

All the .class files, into the minecraft.jar, yes. The forums will hopefully be back up soon.

It never did work. I don't have the right Mod Loader files, I need a good download for them. The ONLY mod I've been able to use and successfully install is Too Many Items.

Wouldn't it be easier to send me a premodded .jar file? That sounds right to me... ?

Check the Mods folder in Bin, happened to me too. It's because i had portalgun or humans in that folder..? (the easy method of installation where you put the rar file in the mods folder and your done)

I don't know much about mac but this method is on Windows 7

PS: .jar files are illegal if uploaded.

Backup your saves, delete the .minecraft folder, and start again. This will stop any possible conflicts with previous files, or previously installed mods. I am not sure if this will make a difference in your case, but it can help.
