It won't compete with the Wii U, with SmartGlass you can't play the game on your Pad only interact with it. With the Wii U on the other hand you can play the game on the GamePad
It's definitely a step in that direction. Considering the Wii U is one generation ahead of the other two, I can say it would definitely seem like a natural progression for Microsoft to move to a full cross platform with the next console.
Am I the only one who finds it useless and excessive? This is pretty much just a pause menu with a little less features. (Excluding the movie-map thing... But who wants to look at a map while watching a movie?)
So is this intentionally named to sound like "Smartass"? If so, that's possibly the worst idea ever - the word only has negative connotations. If not, then whoever named it should be slapped in the scrotum. Hard. I can see this being useful. As long as it's an optional feature only, I'll be happy. I'd be really miffed if they made this a crucial addition. Oh how I do miss when gaming was simple.
You can all complain that they are copying other companies (which who doesn't anymore) or who can accept the fact that its a free feature and you, don't freak out, DON'T HAVE TO USE IT! I know it's amazing right? It reminds me of Apple's Airplay non the less, but still it can come in handy in the randomness of times.
Err. Too many accessories. But i guess the more items, the more variety. atleast IE is going to xbox finally.
I was disappointed with Microsoft in general this year. SmartGlass is the most useless idea ever. It will only be somewhat useful for the hardcore sports players, so they can pick plays in secret, every other use for it is completely superfluous
Even making line up changes or buying and trading in sports games would be nice. Actually, I wouldn't mind it if I could get a full time map in gears or BF3 to see where shots are coming from when I am not around. Is it necessary? Hell no but I may use it from time to time.
The lineup changes are easily done with a start menu...not sure what trading in games has to do with it at all... The full time map just pulls you out of the game all the time. Are you going to look down at our phone while you are being shot at? Pulls you out of the experience entirely
I meant trading as in players and rosters. But honestly yes I probably would. I'd prop my phone up beside my monitor. The main reason I check a map is when a sniper shot misses me but I see the suppression effects. It could be very convenient in certain scenarios.
Oh, trading players, thats not really something you can do without a menu anyways, you arent going to try to trade a player in the middle of a game. You must sit WAY too close to your tv to be able to see a full sized map of whatever game you are playing on your phone next to your TV and see whats going on. Even then that would cause an uproar as you have to make it not give an advantage to other players. Imagine the backlash when CoD MW4 has that and everyone who buys a windows phone and then CoD Elite gets to see where every person is all the time and those who cant afford it dont. That is a very quick way to lose a fan base
This is true. But in their minds, they're thinking to themselves: "$$$$$$$$$$$" All that matters to most gaming companies anymore.
