Hi, new to this forum but I am just wondering if there was a program similar to split4g for use on a mac to break up game files that are larger than 4gb, so that i can transfer them to a FAT 32 formatted drive to be used with Multiman or a similar program. I do not have FTP so i would not be able to use that method. Please also let me know if there is any other way to copy the game to the external drive itself. Thanks.
What I did for Fear 2 was I picked a spot right in the middle in between the real size of the game (for example 6gb game > go for the 3gb mark). You will need to copy them over to the desired address and save them. You will use the usb again to pick the next folder and copy the other half and save them to the correct address. Example: blus080879/Hello/this/is/an/example Copy half of it blus080879/Hello/this and then copy the other half /is/an/example now it will look the same again. blus080879/Hello/this/is/an/example Ya its confusing but I don't explain that great.
Hi, thank you for your reply, but what i mean when i say that i cannot copy a file onto the hard drive is because the hard drive itself has a limit of 4gb for a single file (FAT32), and i would like to know a way (apart from FTP), to perhaps split the file to smaller ones that will be able to transfer. I have read that for windows users there is a program called Split4G or OpenSplit, which i am currently looking for in a mac format for use.
i tried to split files and then join them on my external but that didnt work so if your going to put them on your ps3 the program should put them there together but you cant run games straight off the external that has a file that is 4gigs big
There is a program called split & concat that splits them but then you need to put them back together. but the max split is 2gb.. for each part.
just read what i wrote and i loled i meant the ps3 program should join the files back together if when you transfer from an external to the internal hdd.(so ive been told)
So you are basically trying to put a game which is bigger than 4gb, and hope for it to be read from ps3? Why don't you use winrar and compress in on computer and then uncompress the mutiple files on the external and then delete all the rar.s'? is this what you are trying to do, I am just trying to help.
LOL, He's looking for a program to split PS3 games with individual file's larger than 4+GB in size. Spliting the game folder in to 2 parts doesnt make the 4+GB file smaller... lol. Anyway, Search for OpenSplit v1.2, It will split the 4+GB file's & works on PC, MAC & LINUX. EDIT: Here you go http://www.ps3news.com/PS3-Hacks/opensplit-v1-0-to-split-4gb-files-for-open-manager-ps3-arrives
Tried that. 2 problems: It doesn't compress it that much and if that did work the PS3 doesnt have winrar to unpack it! Haha! Good suggestion though!
This will not work since it's a single file that's larger than 4g and not the contents of folder which shouldn't be a problem at all.
Are you sure? It is just basically splitting the blusxxxxx folder into sections and combining them again. No game is one file on the PS3 except in PKG files. Fear 2 worked for me with that way of doing that. You just have to find the EBOOT.bin file in multiman and click it and it started right up.
This ^^. You can put a game that is 9GB in size on to a USB HDD formatted to fat32, As long as no individual file inside that game folder is larger than 4GB. If there is a individual file larger than 4GB in that game folder, You'll need to split it with either split4g/open split or any other program that split's 4GB+ for PS3 (.666xx). Example. 1, GTA4 all together is 10.2GB in size, But has no individual file's larger than 4GB. So this game can be played & stored on a USB HDD formatted as fat32 with no modifications, At all. Simple? 2, GT5 all together is 13.7GB is size, & has 1 file within the game folder that is 11.2GB (GT.VOL) in size, So this game has 1 individual file larger than 4GB. So you will need to either use split4g/opensplit to split the 11.2GB file into parts small enough so that it will fit onto a USB HDD formatted to fat32 (They'll be split as GT.VOL.66601, GT.VOL.66602, GT.VOL.66603 & so on). Now once the 4GB file has been split (GT.VOL) into smaller part's, Then you can transfer those files along with the game folder to your USB HDD formatted as fat32. Im pretty sure the OP needs help with the 2nd example ^^, Which is why you're method may not work.
I see what you are talking about now. So it basically comes down to the files within the game. My game must have just been luck. My game had 2 main folders after the blusxxxxx so i just manually took them both and they were both 3 gb each. So you are alking about a game with more then 4gb so you actually split the WHOLE file. I gotcha now.
Ahh if that were the case you have been very lucky. the problem i have now is that a single file inside the folders is larger than 4GB, which is the limit for the size of a file on a FAT32 formatted hard drive. Thank you anyways. Ideally that should work, but it doesnt the ps3 will not read .rar files, so i will need to find something that has a corresponding piece of software to be used with the PS3 itself. Thanks Thank you so much strategizer. you are a lifesaver! But if i may ask, does this program that spilts all these files work with Multiman v 1.17? Thanks
Yes. Make sure to use MM's file manager to copy the hole game folder (& the split file's in they're original folder), & MM will join them when its copying them over.
i see, thank you, so there is no way that i can get this to work within the external hard drive itself? Thanks EDIT : What i am trying to ask is if it is possible to still run the games on an external hard drive without having to move it into the internal one (as my internal one is the factory one) - if there is any sort of program that I can use?
