Unneeded? Australia, along with some other nations, haven't been fortunate enough to enjoy games as they should of been due to censorship. Games like Left 4 Dead 2, Mortal Kombat, The Walking Dead, Silent Hill: Homecoming, more of the recent Grand Theft Auto games..... excluding Mortal Kombat and The Walking Dead, which have been refused classification, the other games were and have been edited so they are not as violent or gory as it was originally made. Yes, seeing someone get drilled in the face is not going to change the outcome of a story, but why censor what adults can and can't see/do?

This doesn't make too much of a difference for my hobby. I import games that are banned or edited and I will probably continue doing it only because I can save myself an easy $15 in doing so.

All that crap is unnecessary. If your under 18 or 17 chances are your parents are buying it for you anyways

an R rating for a game ..... So does that mean now were going to see moar b00bi3zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!! ,,,, and honestly unless that was the reason - Nudity/Violence then it's just plain silly. If you 15 years of age and you can't understand that its a game then you are sheltered. GAWDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD the australian are on to something...nawt

I am very happy as an Australian, as now games that I want to buy and experience how they are supposed to be, will not be censored to meet the MA15+ rating. Really disappointed at the article here though, as the person has obviously not done their research as to why it is needed, as it was definitely not done just to get younger gamers off of CoD as nothing will stop their parents for buying it for them now anyway. CoD will still be 15+ after this legislation too so it's definitely not the point...

Yes, finally this happened. I don't understand why your against this, it stops younger kids from playing these games and it stops games from getting banned or censored and piracy decreases!

How does piracy decrease at all? Wouldn't it raise due to kiddies not being able to get their games?

I love this, we can finally get games that were previously not allowed here. Also, online gaming might be a bit more fun without a pubescent child screaming in your ear.

I see where you're coming from, but I think the majority of gamers are under the age of 18, so restricting them from playing the games that they want just so a few adults can satisfy their gory needs is a little selfish to me. Sure, they can just get their brother to buy it for them, but then they are breaking the law just so they can play video games.

I'm all for uncensored games, and I would like to see them raw, but if doing so will take away some kids right to play his favorite games I won't support it.

Wrong, a survey only a few weeks ago revealed the average gamer is over 30, it's just little kids are more vocal when playing and probably more active on gaming forums too which is why you probably think the way you do. Most kid's who you are seemingly supporting are under 15 anyway so they shouldn't be playing in the first place, but this 18+ rating will definitely not stop them from getting their hands on a copy one way or another

Finally bout bloody time, I've been waiting a very long time for this to happen and so have other fellow gamers I know.. It's a bit weird though that this only happened when a chick ran for president.

There, is. Turn content restrictions on, on an account and certain downloads, movies and games will be restricted, depending on the account holders age.

If you come in here saying that a survey proved me wrong, you'd be best to quote your source.

You also managed to assume my age, you're not off to a great start.

Piracy would decrease due to games getting banned so you would have to download them to play them (not that i ever have ;).

But I guess it would raise as well because of the little kids not getting their games, but they would need either a jailbroken PS3, Flashed Xbox 360 or jtag/rgh or modded Wii to play them apart from PC.

This was bound to happen, and I think parents should be able to control what their children look at and play, although often it is not realistic, we should try to help parents control their children, and this is a step in the right direction.

and Buzz Lightyear, since the parents actually aren't getting anything except control of their kids, I would hardly call it selfish.
