Alright, whenever I play L4D on my computer, I lag a good bit.

When I do the demo on my 360 however, it's great, perfect connection.

Is this a problem with Steam's servers or my computer some how?

You can create a local game, which freinds can join.
Or you can type into console "openserverbrowser" and use that.

Then join a server your hosting a dedicated version of the L4D server tool running on.
My community has about 7 running with about 4/5 constantly in use. All passworded.

Do you mean FPS lag or what? It might be your computer just can't run it becuase you may have a low end graphics card ect...

It is most likely an issue with your computer, not lag issue. This issue basically means you need to upgrade one of several components of your computer.

If choke actually is a problem, try upgrading the following computer parts-
RAM
Processor
Graphics Card

Although if CHOKE isn't the problem, it is most likely a problem with the server, or networking of the game. Keep in mind it is a BETA build, so expect some problems.

lower your settings to all low. If that doesn't fix it your pc sucks ***. That's the problem.

And you can't compare it to the xbox version, the xbox version is optimized to run perfectly on the xbox. The PC one hands you all your settings.

I'm not talking about performance, I'm talking about network lag.

Try port forwarding the program, that can help sometimes. I rarely get network lag though, maybe your just getting connected to crappy rooms.

Alright, I know it's my PING now, and I've done some Google searches and think I need to modify my "cl_updaterate" and "cl_cmdrate".

Does anybody know where I go to change these?

Go to the developers console, enable it by going into the advanced settings whens setting keys for gameplay. Tap ` then enter those.

Alright I got it, sometimes my ping is still ~200, but I think it's just the server.

BUT, I'm still at around 120 on close servers, so how can I get this lower?
