AT&T announces iPhone 3G pricing plans

Monthly data prices coming in at standard PDA rates, $10 more than 2G iPhone rates

Finally, a piece of news we can actually do something with. AT&T today announced its pricing structure for the next iteration of Apple's iPhone -- which you can plunk down money for come 8 am, July 11th. There's not much that's surprising here -- new customers and those eligible for an upgrade will be able to nab the phone for $199 (8GB) or $299 (16GB), while "early upgraders" will have to fork over $399 or $499, all with a two year contract and $18 upgrade fee, of course. The telco says a no-commitment version of the phone will be available for $599 and $699, though it looks like that will come after the initial launch. AT&T appears to be leaning pretty heavily towards the all-in unlimited plans, but there are options if you don't want to go that route. We've sorted out the basics after the break, and included AT&T's "iReady" video -- certainly good for a few chuckles.

$600 is the in the range of a Blackberry or Windows Mobile device no-commitment price.
I don't see why everyone is so shocked.
It's because normally people don't buy Blackberry or WinMo devices without a commitment.

I really want to know if AT&T Premier accounts get discounts on the phone. I'd guess not, but my mom's business has an agreement with AT&T and gets like a 15% discount on equipment and monthly plans.

I have had an iPhone since day one and want this new one. Will they give me like a discount since I bought it when it came out for the 600 I paid or will they screw me over?

My first phone was a Nokia, and it was pretty good.
It's almost like Nokia doesn't give a **** about the US market. All we get are flip phones and the E62. No E71, N95, N96, or any other Eseries or Nseries.
