MS wants to be first out of the gate with Xbox 720

Microsoft wants to have the Xbox 360's successor first on the shelves for the 8th generation

Talking with VentureBeat, Xbox 360 boss Robbie Bach chatted about where the Xbox brand is headed next generation, reconfirming their plan to be the first out of the console release gate once again. "If you take the question of whether it was the right thing to try to be first [with Xbox 360], the answer to that is definitely yes" Bach told VentureBeat, "it has given us a leg up with game developers. It has given us a leg up from an economics perspective. It helped us expand Xbox Live quickly. At a strategy level, if you asked if we wanted to be first again, I would say yes." Plain and simple. Then again, trying to beat the PS4 to market won't be all that hard for Microsoft seeing that Sony has publicly announced their plans to make it a ten year console. Right? Xbox 720 in 2011, bring it on!

Sounds like a good plan, I mean it worked with the 360 right? PS3 was kinda late and everyone had already became obsessed with the 360 by the time the PS3 was out. The only problem is that it gives the other companies the chance to develop their consoles to be better in one way or another.

the 360 RRoD problem basically has been fixed lol... none of the NEW consoles get it anymore...

I do think they should ride this generation longer though...

We'll have to decide if the wait was worth it with the PS3...they're just starting to nip at the heels of the 360...but the 360 has been top dog since it's launch.

MS cheaped out on hardware making the 360s and that's why they're sh1t....a next gen console would surely have the hardware necessary to keep them successful and out of the shop

yeah its called don't put 3 IMB procs in an xbox and not expect it to get a little hot
