Xbox 360 breaks 10 million mark for console sales in the US

Microsoft proudly announced that today, the total sales of Xbox 360 consoles in the United States had broken the 10 million mark, being the first next-generation console to do so. Selling over 19 million units worldwide, Xbox Live also almost doubled in size, growing to over 12 million members, up from 7 million last July. Microsoft credit's last month's launch of Grand Theft Auto IV for the large subscriber growth. Microsoft also said that "(the) Xbox 360 leads with the industry's highest software attach rate, more than any other console this generation, and is home to the best selling games". Console attach rate is a way of measuring how many games each console owner owns. Microsoft backs up the claim that the Xbox 360 "is home to the best selling games" by showing that "Xbox 360 has 91 titles with a Metacritic review score of 80 or higher, compared to just 22 for Wii and 50 for PS3". Good job Microsoft, but can you keep these numbers up until 2012?

No, Microsoft says that the 360 should have a 7 year lifespan, which would mean the next Xbox comes out in 2012.

And that "2012 is the end of the world" is horsesh*t.

Microsoft wants to try and make the 360 last as long as possible, the normal span of a console is 5 years then a new one is released, and the PS3 and Wii were both released in late 2006 so if you figure 5 years thats almost 2012, which seems like a new xbox would be about due.

Either way the 360 is probably gonna outlast the PS3, because Sony knows that they made a mistake with releasing the PS3 too long after the release of the 360 so when the next Xbox is released they're probably gonna try and put their new one out there too.

Whatever though its too soon to be talking about new consoles so til then 360 FTW.

HAIL SATAN! All the speculation in the world doesnt amount to a pile of beans. Scientist have calculated that the nearest possible "end of world" scenario to be closer to 2029. Supposedly that is when the comet that is heading our way will be close enough to do some damage. At least that is what NASA says. who knows, maybe xbox will have fixed all the problems by the time 2012 comes around. if they do, i wouldnt mind buying one and making my own "smash my 360 video".
