Microsoft says the Xbox 360 can have a 7 year lifespan

Microsoft confident in the Xbox 360 lasting until 2012

Just a day after Microsoft said that the next-gen Xbox wasn't coming in 2009, Microsoft made an announcement, saying that everyone's favorite white box should be able to last for 7 years after it's launch, to 2012. Shane Kim, from Microsoft, expressed that he was "confident" that the 360 will still be Microsoft's only console on the market in 2012. Microsoft seems to be working out the kinks that caused the 360's somewhat high failure rate, and with less instances of the dreaded "Ring of Death" occurring, Microsoft could be right on the money.

2012 seems a little late to me. Late 2010 - early 2011 seems like the target dates.

Plus Microsoft has to be able to push out new features and big name exclusives during that lifespan. Halo is done, and GOW2 is coming out soon. Microsoft needs to get cracking on a new game that will be exclusive to the 360 and will be a big hit like Halo if they want it to keep rolling until 2012.
