According to Fortune, an unnamed source says that AT&T will offer a discount on the new iPhone, like all other phones the company offers. Unlike the first iPhone, which had a flat cost for anyone in or out of their contract, AT&T is planning to subsidize up to $200 of the cost of the phone, which if it retails at the expected cost of $399, would place the price at $199. If the discount is applied, only iPhones purchased at AT&T stores by customers who commit to a 2-year contract would be eligible for the discount. The source also notes that the new iPhone will be 2.5mm thinner then the first generation iPhone and will include a GPS chip. Apple and AT&T declined to comment on the chance of a price reduction.
