Mind you, this is just a codename, and will most likely have something much less intuitive by the time it sees shelves. Of course, this will be widely interpreted as a rip-off of Nintendo, although it should be noted that Nintendo actually licenses the patents for the Wiimote from Gyration, Inc., who's had the technology since at least 2001. Now, purportedly, MS has licensed these patents from Gyration, and are in fact using them to develop their own variation. An example of this would be the usage of the Guitar controllers used in Guitar Hero and Rockband. Initial reports indicate that the controller could be released as early as the fourth quarter of 2008. Like the Wiimote, The Newton is also going to use an LED sensor bar that will be USB-powered, and will have the same LED sensor on the front, same accelerometer and gyroscope sensor for tilt and swing, rumble functions, and a built in Microphone for XBL and voice-activation. Reports do suggest, however, that the Xbox version may not incorporate the secondary "nun chuck" controller... The initial report also guesses that the new controller will sell for around $50, and that it might come with bundled with a copy of "Conkers: The fast and the Furriest". It's also guessed that the controller may be designed to utilize the Play & Charge Kit. So, there you have it. Xbox will have a Wiimote, and probably in time for Christmas. Woot woot!

| Hmm I'm still not sure that this is for sure. We have heard no statement from Microsoft. It is a completely random for them to bring out a new controller almost three years after the console was first released. In my opinion it's a lie. Maybe for the next Xbox but I think it is a bit of a dream at the minute. | ||||||
