Not a whole lot to go on right now, but German site HDTV Praxis has it that both Paramount and Universal will now make the obvious choice and publish their films on Blu-ray. Notably, this follows hints seen in certain Circuit City databases as well as word that we've received noting that both studios would indeed make things easy on everyone and simply support the one format still standing. Interestingly, DreamWorks isn't mentioned in the linked article per se, but we've all ideas it'll be following suit shortly. [Thanks, Khattab] Update: Universal's president Craig Kornblau had this to say: "While Universal values the close partnership we have shared with Toshiba, it is time to turn our focus to releasing new and catalog titles on Blu-ray." Thanks, Kiwi616!

| Screw that, I'd buy a Blu-Ray player before I bought a PS3. Besides, still counting on that 360 Blu-Ray drive, aren't we? Although it's probably going to be like 150 dollars, it's a step in the right direction for Microsoft. What I don't get is why it has to be one format. Sure, it would be easier on the movie companies to have just one format, but do we do that in everything else? No. There's at least over 200 image formats, 20 video formats, over 50 executable formats(and growing), so what's the deal with having TWO DVD formats? It's good competition, even if HD doesn't have as much space, but come on, whose gonna watch a seven hour movie just cause it fits on a Blu-Ray disk? And sure, you can make it look better with more space, but Blu-Ray really doesn't look that much better compared to HD. My two cents. | ||||||

My two cents. -There was DAT and DCC digital cassette tapes that died due to competition, -There were two incompatible discs before DVD. One used a laser and one used a stylus needle; Neither stayed. -VHS & BetaMax .. BetaMax died out to VHS .. & now logically, The "HD" dvd wars have quickly crowned a single winner...... Formats die quickly when they require multiple hardware purchasing requirements. Think about your examples that you said.. You mentioned all those filetypes, but they simply wouldn't exist, if you needed to purchase a unique piece of hardware for each & every one to run. So in other words imagine needing.. An ADOBE PC just to run pdf files and psd files. Another JPEG PC, to look at your digital camera pictures. A GIF PC to look at animations..... None of those filetypes or computing devices would survive either, and they would be phased out down to one. And don't say COMBO PLAYERS; main reason being.. have you looked at BLU-RAY/HDDVD Players before? They cost 4-10 times greater than buying a single player for either or format, & no one is buying them. Combo players will & have always cost much more when made available for multiple formats, & have never caught on ..... Lastly, in a world where "everyone" in the past bought a VCR & then a DVD player, in order to see a show @ their leisure, we are now entering a time when most people will or already have access to HD DVR's & HD Pay-Per-View, & a BIG segment of the population may never bother w/ a blu-ray or HDDVD, especially if there remained a format war, & movies were not available in 1 or the other..... My 3 Cents ..
