Xbox 360 Blu-ray player rumor returns right on cue

Microsoft could make 360 Blu-Ray addon, and possibly a 360 with built in Blu-Ray

Two years and 1 month ago today we saw the kibosh come down on the Xbox 360 Blu-Ray player rumor. This morning it returns with the prospect of a Microsoft player as early as May. According to Smarthouse, their "insiders at Microsoft" claim that a standalone Blu-ray player is already working in-house. With the appropriate approvals it could be on sale within 3 months. A 360 with built-in Blu-ray is also being worked on although the possibility of moving it out to retail is less clear with HD downloads on the horizon. Not that any of this is unexpected given the circumstances. We never expected Microsoft to go down with the HD DVD ship -- they're just passengers on this ill-fated voyage, not the captains.

This would make sense, I can already see the press release:

"We love to give our customers a choice, and we can see now that many customers want a Blu Ray player. With this in mind we have created an attachment similar to our HD-DVD player that will allow the playing of Blu Ray movies. We hope that our customers who want to watch Blu Ray can see this is a cheaper alternative then your other Blu Ray players."

Thisll be great. Half of the ps3 buyers just bought it for blu-ray so hopefully this will attract more customers if they make a 360 with built in blu-ray.

Blu-ray is hardly that much better than HD is it? For me I am sticking with HD. The DVD's cost way less. And we just got a new HD DVD player and HD TV.

Didn't you hear that hd dvds lost the battle against blue ray. They aren't making them anymore.

On all the movie comercials I see I always at the end hear coming out on xxx date on dvd and blu-ray, never hear anything about hd-dvd.

I'd get one. I wonder if it would be freaking 200 like the hd used to or 130 like the hd is.

Probably not $200 because Microsoft wants to stay competitive with the PS3.
Maybe $150.
