PS3 begins to overtake Xbox360 in sales since launch

I hate to beat a dead horse but it looks like the PS3 is starting to pull ahead of the Xbox360 when you sync sales since launch date.

The Wii is currently sitting at about 19.54M units worldwide. Xbox360 has over 16 million sold (early holiday reports are putting it in the neighborhood of 17 million). The PS3 is sitting at 8.92 million units sold.

Understand that I am a Nintendo man all the way and I love my Wii (and DS Lite, thanks Santa) but the amount of negative reporting the PS3 had to endure during its first year makes me think the same people working for Hillary Clinton also work for Microsoft (go Obama!)

The folks at Sony have long said that they see the PS3 being around for the long haul. They look at the lifespan of the PS2 (launched in March 2000) and how it is still selling very well. Sony is looking at how the other video game console manufacturers give each system a four or five year lifespan and they are thinking ten years. Will this gamble pay off? Who knows but Sony is clearly basing the future on their past experience with the PS2

Look at that, released just under eight years ago and the PS2 has a sales chart very close to that of the Xbox360! Clearly the PS2 was (and still is) a huge success. Why Sony decided to pull the PS2 chips from their low end PS3 is beyond me. Both the Wii and the Xbox360 will play games from the last generation of their consoles. Is the couple of dollars they save worth it or is demand for the PS2 still so high that they would rather lower the price of the PS3 to a point where buying both a PS3 and a PS2 makes more economical sense for the customer?

Sony has made a few mistakes recently (Root Kits, DRM, etc…) but I no longer think that the PS3 is among those mistakes.

personally I wanna buy a PS3 for teh blu-ray capabilities.. and for the fact that my 50 inch panasonic viera 1080p display is lonely.

i wouldnt mind a PS3 except i HATE the controllers, they're so frail and small. I would just break them.

As of now, I wouldn't recommend getting a PS3 to anyone. It doesn't have as many games as the Xbox 360 and doesn't have the fun factor of the Wii. The only really good thing about it is its Blu-Ray drive, but there is still a format war going on!

Its only cause they jacked their prices down, which I think they said they were never going to do. Most people are getting it now just for the sake of saying they have both.

Yeah if the price was still the same (600 or whatever) ps3 sales wouldn't be half of what they are now. I would accept a PS3 if I got one for free, but I doubt that I would ever intentionally spend my own money on one.

As far as I'm concerned.... 360 FTW!

its all about PS3 losers
the controllers have sensers does the xbox360 have them No and i have an old xbox and the only place i can get games is gamestop thats why xbox 360 sucks cuz its gone in 4 years wen a new console is out

im buying a ps3 in the summer b/c its fun and has tons of stuff including HOME thts coming out soon btw home is a sim game its hard to explan

The PS3 is the best Blu-Ray player available because it actually has the current BD spec. Loads of standalone players have been sold (and are still being sold) that only have the 1.0 spec, which allows no interactive content and some other things. Some FOX titles won't play on 1.0 players because they require the newer spec, which the PS3 has had out of the box.

ok what good games does ps3 have like HALO 3 or halo 2 any good series like that xbox has GTA now and they are making a controller for 360 that has a motion sensor.

Aiello 7S Enthusiast	As of now, I wouldn't recommend getting a PS3 to anyone. It doesn't have as many games as the Xbox 360 and doesn't have the fun factor of the Wii. The only really good thing about it is its Blu-Ray drive, but there is still a format war going on!
