"I managed to connect to xbox live with the leaked version installed. Here's what I did:

-launched Gears of War 1, got prompted for an update
-When you're asked if you want to update, select "no"
-Launch Xbox guide, and return to dashboard, you should now sign in to live automatically.

It's a bit glitchy though: you can't check your messages, you can't access marketplace, still no avatars, but at least you can play online."

hmmm, why don't YOU give it a try before you bash it? It worked for me. Although I don't have a copy of gears, I used an old (original) xbox demo disc, and when it asked for an update you just simply decline, and when your brought back to the dashboard you will be on live.

darkraver, I guess you can call this proof. Like I said the only thing that works is the option to play games online(no marketplace, no netflix, no custom avatars)

How did you get a prompt to update if you were already on the leaked version? you need to be signed into LIVE to get the prompt. I dont think your being very truthfull in your claims.

launch the game via the NXE, and if the game requires an update (I used an old xbox demo disc), you will be asked to update. You should DECLINE the update and when you do, you will be brought back to the dashboard signed into live. It has to be a glitch because you can access any of the marketplace or avatar icons.

But how will you be asked for an update if your not already signed into live? Updates are only for xbox LIVE use, and therefore you need to be sined into Xbox LIVE to even be asked to Update the Game... so How were you signed into xbox LIVE on the NXE before you launched GoW1?

Well I'm gonna take my risk with this and download it and hope that the thing the guy said to get on Live will work. If not then it's only a day.

It does work I tried it but if you try to play a game online that requires an update it gets knocked off again. I had a spare xbox 360 that I installed the update on awhile ago and I just tried in the past 10 minutes. It also disables your friends list in the dash. I wasn't able to send messages or chat. So use with caution most XBL features don't work.

if you set your 360's timezone too the last one on the list in 5 hours it will be 11/19 and it will update legit

That won't do anything. Xbox will not be releasing it per time zone, they will probably release it at like Midnight EST or something. So those people in that timezone will be getting it on like the 21st lol.

only sayin this because me leaked nxe is asking me to update when i log in now so it may be possible i hoop,and since the update seems to be out there already im sure it will work

I did. But do you know that for sure? What if they do release it per time zone. And if not, no big deal, I can change it back.
