Rumor: New 360 controllers feature revised d-pad

Rumor: New 360 controllers feature revised d-pad
New red and green controllers could have 32-directional d-pad

In rumor news coming straight from the Leipzig Games Convention floor, Eurogamer is reporting that Microsoft has plans to release new Xbox 360 controllers featuring a revised d-pad.

Eurogamer heard about the d-pad revision from a third party publisher who confirmed that the new controllers will look exactly like the current model, but with 32 direction support. We're also told that the Games Convention booth for Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer is using the new controller and Capcom's Street Fighter IV will supposedly support the new d-pad as well. Eurogamer posted pictures of the revised d-pad controller which is coincidentally the new green controller set to release next month. Does that mean the new green and red are the rumored to be revised controller models with improved d-pads? We aren't exactly sure, so we'll wait for Microsoft to comment.

Re: Rumor: New 360 controllers feature revised d-pad

They updated that story, it looks like the optimized controllers are only going to be bundled with some pro evolution soccer 09 copies, and it will be a limited edition item. So it looks like a new Dpad isnt going to be widespread unfortunately. I was looking forward to some street fighter with a decent dpad on 360 but I guess it will not happen unless I buy a 3rd party.

The silver thing is there so noone steals the controller. And besides the new color looks the same.

The d-pad is digital, so the digitizer can be programmed to have as many directions as Microsoft feels it should have. Think of the d-pad as a analog clock. Right now the 4-direction d-pad only detects the 12, 3, 6, and 9 positions. Microsoft is making it so it can detect the smaller minute positions.

im pretty sure that it false, the D-pad isnt analog like the triggers, so you are either pressing the button or your not, so it cant since if your slightly pressing up more than sideways. That being said, they COULD make it analog but that would be gay.

Re: Rumor: New 360 controllers feature revised d-pad

They should really work on fixing the joysticks to have a longer life expectancy. I have gone through 4 controllers from the joystick merely screwing up. My old controllers joystick automatically detects that when I am not even moving it, it slowly moves my guy forward. Stupid. 32 direction feature, whatever happened to the nice up down left right?

i dont believe he said it was analog, he may have, but all i remember is him comparing it to an analog clock.

edit: in fact, the first thing he said is that it was digital...
