Gears of War 2 to have option to censor crude content

Even with a very adult "Mature" rating, Microsoft has confirmed that Gears of War 2 will include the option to filter out both the game's extreme violence and foul language. A system that's very similar to the original Gears' that filtered out gore, but a bit different.

According to What They Play, they've been informed by Microsoft that the Gears 2 violence filter "turns the blood into sparks," and the language filter in turn "takes out all the swear words." Sparks replacing blood? No manly Gears swearing? Doesn't sound much like Gears to us, but if it makes parents feel comfortable enough to let their eleven year old children experience the Gears universe then we're okay with it. Whoa, whoa ... wait a second ...

Yeah heard about this earlier today. Guess that's good for some, but even if the blood and swears are gone it's still pretty violent.

jeez... the option to turn off blood and swearing in a gears game? that's like giving someone the option to remove the sugar from honey before they eat it. it takes away from what the game IS. and i agree, 7 year old's shouldn't be playing gears. But i do think that 11 year old's can tell the difference between reality and a videogame. my little bro is 12 & 1/2 and he could play any game he wanted and still not be influenced a bit by it. with the exception of course to want to play the game more, but thats only natural.

You can't blame them. Its the stupid parents that buy mature games and then complain about it. Now they have a reason not to *****.

If the blood would have turn into those dog heads, I would play with the filter on all day.

(And then with it off at night of course).

Well I think that its a good Idea for the younger audience. Weather or not the feature will actually be used is another thing... and the only reason I say that is cause When I was Younger, I could get my mom to buy me "M" rated games and just give 'em to me without any thought of what I was actually playing.
