What type of emulator do you have N64, GBA, GBC? And go to Framerate and check that because one time my Legend Of Zelda rom was going really fast! So i went to framerate i believe and their was an option, and i set it to normal or default i believe. Hope i helped!

Maybe it is the emulator itself it depends on which version you are using because the n64 the first emulators where very slow.
