Unanswered: Motherboard swap

I recently swapped the motherboard out of my TA-079 psp with a TA-082.
I'm not sure what was wrong with my first motherboard i didn't brick it, i just tried to turn on my psp one day and i got nothing, no lights or anything. Tried different chargers and batteries and still nothing. So i got my hands on another on the TA-082 and swapped it out. Almost everything works except there is no sound and the umd drive doesn't work. Is this because of the different motherboards? Is there possibly a way to fix my original board.
Also right before the board died i was having problems with my usb
connection. It would not connect. A couple of months earlier i had done the usb charge mod. Could this have damaged my motherboard?

That's a weird problem, and it almost sounds like the cause of it would be with the psp's powerboard...
