Video games have different stages of development/testing. Basically it goes; Alpha > Beta > Gamma/Omega (Candidate for public consumption)

Given that info do you have any more questions?

Wrong

Concept > Alpha > Beta > Delta > Epsilon > Gold

When a game is "gold" that means it eligible for being printed and sold

and even those stages are kinda iffy, a game constantly pushes forward in small steps

Meh, technically there are more (or less but I doubt that ever happens) I was just trying to make it short and sweet for the guy lol There can be different names for the stages don't forget. Although you're never going to get away from the Alpha, Beta and "Gold"

Consumers don't normally get to play betas. People like to play them because of that fact. You're basically contributing to a testing part of the games development. You're getting to see and play something normally only the people on the inside of the games development get to see and play.

When a developer releases a beta for public testing (playing) it can be for many reasons. Helping with the testing and building a hype machine are two of them.

Normally if you have the beta, you probably have the game early. Everyone was all over the Halo 3 beta. It wasn't better then the game that's currently out, but it was there to play for a while.

Um, people like playing on the Beta's because the glitches, from what I've HEARD. Beta yes means that it's out there for testing to see how people react to it, good feedback means they'll keep it the way it is, bad feedback will mean back to the drawing board. And like Sub-Xero said, open beta's are uncommon when they're such great franchises like MGS. But MGO was a newer addition to MGS, and they just felt the need to put it out there, I for one wasn't going to argue with it, but play it, which is what I did.
