Good question Timmy! Now people have wondered, and people used these words wrongly. Special effects I do not know how to do, :O but what about After Effects? What about After Effects? After Effects has nothing to do with special effects. Special effects is done before post-production(editing) not after. Now visual effects and CGI is done on the computer. Actually visual effects and CGI is the same thing, but I like to say CGI when I'm talking about 3D objects and such; and, I say visual effects when I composite. Even though they the same thing. Special effects are the fake blood coming from you neck. It actually can go into makeup, but it all depends. So anything that's done on camera like real explosions, blank gun shots, fake gushing blood is special effects. Anything that is done on computer like fake explosions, fake gun shots, etc is visual effects or CGI.
