How to mod the strength of guns in Borderlands

Open your save in HxD.

Find the block for the weapon you want to awesomeify.

Measure 9 bytes forwards from the end of the weapon block.

Change the 9th byte to a number between 00 and 05.
05 is the best
00 is the worst
Rehash and resign.

It's also worth noting this changes the grade of the weapon, which will alter the level requirement as well. a grade 5 (changing it to 05) will make the requirement ~48.

Worked! You might want to add this works on all your inventory not just weapons.

No he didn't show me. This also works for all other equipment!

This changes rarity, but does it alter stats?

I'm about to try it out.

Also, has anyone else tried altering the weapon parts? That's what I've been doing.

Yes it changes stats. I changed a pistol from 9 damage to 189 damage.

Yup, got my shotgun to change.

Do you have any idea what the 5th byte and 13th byte do?

EDIT: I think the 5th byte controls clip size.

I was converting from HEX to DEC and some matched, but now it seems that others don't. It seems like that byte doesn't control anything, but why is it there?

I've already looked into this a while ago. The first long is a little odd, it behaves differently depending on the item type. On weapons i have no idea what it does but on other items it acts like a quantity value. XD put it to somethign like 5 on a health pack and you can use that health pack more than once. The second long is the item's grade. The third long is used for telling whether the item is equiped or not. I've done the testing and you cant force items to equip that shouldnt be.

The gun won't have a level requirement, but it will also have the same stats as if it were a level 00. So the weapons have set levels and the 00 - 05 corresponds with those.
