Learn how to FTP aka connect to your Xbox from your PC and transfer files, apps, emulators, roms, movies, games, etc over to your Xbox.

How to FTP to Your Xbox
Written by AzzidReign

Requirements:
Modified Xbox - Click HERE if you would like to know how to mod your Xbox.

FTP Client - Click HERE for FlashFXP. You can use other clients, but this is the most widely used client for the Xbox.

Computer - I'd hope you have this since you are on the internet

Router - This is how your Xbox and Computer will be "linked" together. This tutorial will only work if you are using a router.

Here's how the router configuration should look like:

A common question: What does FTP mean?! -Answer: FTP means File Transfer Protocol.

Before we get started:
Step 1: Have the Xbox turned on to your Modded dash (Evox, UnleashX, etc). If you don't have a modded dash then you don't know how to read the first requirement.

Step 2: Go into the settings>network settings in your modded dash. Change the IP set to DHCP aka Automatic IP on your Xbox.

Step 3: Make sure you Xbox is connected to your computer through a router.

Let's begin
Step 1: Open your FTP program and turn your Xbox on. Be sure you are in your modified dash (EvoX, UnleashX, etc.)

Step 2: Go to Quick Connect. If you are using FlashFXP, this is what it should look like.
Click the image to open in full size.

Step3: Put your Xbox's IP where it says Server or URL. For username, use xbox. For password, use xbox. That's what it is defaulted to.

Click the image to open in full size.

When you are connected, this is what it should look like.

Click the image to open in full size.

Troubleshooting
Q: The connection is timing out, what do I do?
A: Go back to your modded dash, make sure the IP is set to automatic or DHCP. When you change it, be sure that you save and exit or else the settings won't be saved. Once the settings are changed and saved, restart your Xbox and check for your IP again. The IP will be the FIRST IP shown when going into network settings.

If you've used this tutorial, please use the Thanks button.

That means that you were in your modded dash...when you can turn it off or on, then its on the modified dash.

Ok, well that is another way to FTP to your xbox. Some people prefer that over softmodding their xbox...I personally would rather have my box modded...but thats just my preference. Anyways, you can do it the way you did or by softmodding.

ok something is wrong with my xbox or computer because i have ftp'd to my xbox using my cousins computer and it works

on my computer i have everything set up right (correct ip:192.168.1.169, i have the right username and password: xbox, xbox,)

i do not have a crossover cable so i used a router as the crossover

i have used several different ftp programs and still will not connect to my xbox, it says either cannot connect or for SmartFTP it says client closed connection. (my MODDED xbox is turned on)

so the next step i took was to go into ms-dos and commanded it to ping(ping 192.168.1.169). and its reply was timeout requested, 4 times.

so i know that the computer is not reading the xbox

will somebody please reply with help or suggestions.

thanks

Make sure you check your xbox's ip again. Just cuz that ip was at your cuz's house doesnt mean it will work at yours.

Your xbox will have a different IP depending on what network it is connected to, so double check and make sure that you still have the right IP for it, as it may have changed.

I'll tell you one thing right now bud...you didn't put in the right ip. 192.168.0.2 is the default. Is your xbox modded? It needs to be. Then you have to find the ip of your xbox...if you are using a linksys router, then it will look like this: 192.168.1.102

So, I highly doubt that you did everything right.

When it says 0.0.0.0, that means you are not connected to the network. Make sure all the wires are connected properly and then restart your xbox.

It might also help to set your xbox's IP to DHCP if you are having problems getting it an IP. This will tell your router to automatically assign an ip to your box.
