Installing and Using Commview

Using Commview
Written By: Unsanitary
Well a tutorial on how to use commview was suggested so I figured I'd make one. This tutorial is assuming you're connection is already bridged, so I won't go into detail a lot on that.

What You Need:

Installing Commview:

I'm going to use the evaluation trial in this tutorial. Once you have downloaded it, open the file. Click on setup.exe to install commview. Follow the on-screen steps to install the program.

Using Commview:

Congratulations, you now have commview installed on your computer. On to using commview. Open the program up and you will see it has a fairly simple layout.

Click the image to open in full size.

The dropdown menu is the menu that allows you to choose which connection you want to get IPs from. Whichever port your xbox is connected to on your computer should be the one you select. Mine is "Mac Bridge Miniport - Packet Scheduler Miniport".

Click the image to open in full size.

When you are on XBL with your bridged connection, join the person's party who has the IP you want to figure out. Click start on commview and you should start seeing IPs.

Click the image to open in full size.

The IP that starts with 192.168 is yours, so don't tamper with that. 65.59.234.161 is bungie so don't mess with that one either. I'll tell you how to filter those IPs out later on.

Click the image to open in full size.

All IP(s) on LIVE are from port 3074

Click the image to open in full size.

Once you've found the person's IP, you can bridge them host,or whatever other acts you wanna commit.

Filtering IPs (optional):

Seeing your own IP and bungie's can slow things down or even mess you up if you don't know what you're doing. If you want to filter the IPs out, right click on your IP (192.168.something). Right click that IP and find create alias. It then has a choice for either remote IP or local IP. Look at your main commview window and see which column the IP is under and click that one. A box should pop up. Change the name of it to something like "me" and click add. Close the box and you should see the word me instead of your IP. Now do the same for bungie, remember, bungie's IP is 65.59.234.161 so change it's name to bungie or something like that. You can also create alias's for your friends IPs so you don't accidentally bridge them out of the game.

Allowing only port 3074 for xbox (optional):

This will make it so you will only see connections coming in from your xbox's port (3074), which will cut down on timing and make it easier for you. Open your main commview window and you should see tabs. You will automatically be on "latest IP connections" which is where you view the IPs. Click on the "if rules" tab. Now click the ports option on the left side. Now check the "enable port rules" box. Go down to add record and click from and type in the number 3074. Click add port and you should see "from 3074" in the little box under enable port rules. Now go back to the "latest IP connections" tab and you should only see IPs coming in from port 3074 (xbox).

look you can't bridge right now BUT ...to get the right ip's using commview 1 you need to be bridging with a laptop or using two ethernet ports on one pc

Re: Installing and Using Commview

to those of you who are asking about 'why can't i see any IPs over 3074" i suggest bridging your connection before you try to sniff them with commview. Either do that, or connect with ICS using 2 Ethernet ports, or an ethernet port and a Wireless adapter ^^
