Statistically speaking

I've heard a lot of talk about win ratios, KDR,and accuracy in the game and on this forum. Most of it from people who let their emotions get the better of them, or they are just willfully ignorant. But I digress. It is my opinion that no stat in this game can be taken too seriously and it is at best a less than adequate way of judging ones skill in the game. Accuracy, KDR, and win ratios can all be swayed one way or the other to give a false interpretation of skill.

Win ratios are based on team performance in a game. If you enter an S&D match, down 0-3 and you're spectating and your team loses, its loss counts just the same as a 740-750 TDM with your awesome team of 6. A loss is a loss and MW2 doesn't make a distinction between the different game types. So having a .98 win ratio doesn't mean you're a bad player, just maybe you have crappy luck when getting into games. Likewise, a 2.45 win ratio might mean someone only plays with their friends who only play that game type. An example is in COD4 when a good team of 6 can have easily a 20 game win streak in HQ. I still maintain HQ is the easiest game type to win with a good team.

As far as accuracy is concerned, it can be altered by boosting or sniping, or with the LMGs. Or with being an overall crappy player. I think for the regular after-school (or work for those of us who can't let their childhood go) gamers, accuracy is the truest stat that we don't alter. It dsoesn't mean my 22% accuracy means I'm a better player than someone with 16%, it just means I don't take risks with my shots. With that, the 16% guy may spray and pray a bit more, but his KDR also may be a little higher, as I tend to hesitate that all too crucial tenth of a second. Regardless, who cares about accuracy. A kill is a kill, if it takes 10 shots or one.

Finally, KDR. The KDR is only important in deathmatch. That's it. In no other game match does it matter. You could go 0-6 in S&D, but plant the bomb when attacking or get sent out as a scout or distraction when defending and you can be on my team anytime. I love when people talk smack after losing in Sabatoge or HQ because they have a 6:1 KDR. You lost. You were a bad teammate. Chose another game mode where teamwork matters less, like TDM. Having said that, I've played with guys that only work on KDR when playing Sabatoge, because it's easier than TDM. While I agree it's easier, if the only reason you're playing a game type is to improve your own stats or rank up a gun, you're fooling yourself with your stats and your abilities. I'm not telling you how to play the game, since you put your money down like everyone else, but I am telling you that you're a crappy teammate. I understand that in certain game types, you need that guy t get the killstreak rewards since planes and UAVs help out a lot, but you need to work with your team to decide that. But I feel like I'm getting away from my thesis.

Your KDR is the one stat you and your friends will compare the most, as it's the easiest stat you can look at, see wich one is higher, then judge. But the KDR, even when only taking your KDR from a game of deathmatch into account like you can in WaW, does not show stats like dying twice to kill a sniper out of a key position. KDR doesn't reflect times planting bombs, capturing domination points, etc. which are critical in objective style game.

The point I am trying to make is don't take your stats too seriously. It's a game. Play to win or don't play. Communicate with your teammates and don't be selfish. There. Two cups of coffee later and I'm done. Still kind of wired. Maybe the wife is in the mood. Bow-chica-bow-wow.

I seriously hate when people accuse me of only sniping because i'm an accuracy whore, and its the only way to get high accuracy legit. It's not true, I only snipe because its what I am good at. I don't care about accuracy.

I guess I agree. I have never really payed attention to stats. The only one I ever looked at normally was my KDR, but I couldn't care less if it is negative or positive. I don't even care if I win or lose lol, almost every game I play, I usually end up with more kills than everyone else. I just play for fun. . .

Agreed, though when I play HQ I play it for kills and guard the HQ for my team to get there. Though when we loose, I get irritated when someone who went 6/22 starts screaming "Get Ra.ped" when I and my team are all 30+/10-.

But great post.

Why not just play tdm, the guy that went 6-22 won and you lost. How do you in any way quantify that as good thing for you?

This is what i believe is the biggest issue with the game, people like you play objective based games to boost your kdr. The guy that went 6-22 may have helped his team out far more than you did because he actually went after the objective.

I just never saw the point of the guys that rape in hq or domination. Theres absolutely no challenge in shooting someone in the back when they're running towards the hq.
