Modding 2.80 PSP's

For people on PSP's Firmware 2.0 to 2.80, the eLoader is a miracle. What is the eLoader you may ask? It allows you to load homebrew on the firmwares 2.0-2.80, without downgrading or setting up devhook. And yes, it works for you TA-082 users out there. There are two methods that you can use. The first is the TIFF method, in which you load a TIFF image file, and you load homebrew from there. This one works from 2.0 all of the way to 2.80. The older, more inconvenient version is the GTA: LCS method, which is patched in 2.7 and above. This isn't used as much anymore because you need to have the GTA: LCS UMD, and you have to load it before you load any homebrew.

The TIFF Method (2.0-2.80)[/left]
  1. First, make sure you have the required materials:
  2. Turn your PSP on, and go to the XMB (the PSP's main menu). Scroll all the way to the left, and go to "USB Connection". Press 'X'.
  3. Now, install the eLoader to your PSP by either running the Windows .exe or extracting the .zip file.
  4. Now, get your favorite homebrew. Navigate to X:\PSP\GAME on your PSP (where X is your PSP's directory)
  5. Extract the non-kxploited homebrew folder to the GAME folder (X:\PSP\GAME\[any name]\EBOOT.PBP. If you don't know how to do this, read section 4 of this guide.
  6. Press 'circle' to quit USB mode
  7. Now, make sure you have a custom wallpaper set. If you don't, in settings, scroll to Theme Settings, Wallpaper, and set it to "Use". Now, go to the Photo tab, and select a picture, press 'triangle', and set it to use for the wallpaper
  8. Now, scroll to the Photo tab, and open the eLoader folder. If the eLoader loads, then you may go on. If it doesn't, restart your PSP and try again.
  9. In the eLoader, select your homebrew, and press 'X' to start it. Holding START+L+R for one second will exit your homebrew. Pressing 'START' at the eLoader menu will return you back to the XMB (PSP's main menu). Don't press Home and then Yes to quit the eLoader, it will freeze your PSP.
The GTA Method (2.0-2.6)
  1. First, make sure you have the required materials:
    • PSP
    • Memory Stick Duo
    • A USB Cable
    • eLoader 0.99, either The Windows Self-Installer or The Zip File
    • WinRAR (avaiblible here)
    • Any homebrew game, application, or emulator, as long as it's in this list (put in your firmware in the drop down box))
    • Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories
  7. Load GTA: LCS. If the eLoader doesn't auto start, press 'START', and then load the eLoader save file.
How to Install Homebrew

This guide will walk you through the installation of PSPool.
  1. Requirements:
    • eLoader installed
    • WinRAR (avaiblible here)
    • PSPool (availible here)
  2. Go to the XMB (PSP's Main Menu). Scroll to settings, USB Connection. Press 'X'
  3. Navigate to X:\PSP\GAME (where X is your PSP's drive letter)
  4. Open up PSPool.zip.
  5. In the zip file, double click the 1.0 folder. You may ask "Why am I using the 1.0 instead of the [insert other number here]?". The reason is that the homebrew that you need is in the 1.0 form. So when installing homebrew, always use the 1.0 form.
  6. Drag the PSPool directory from the zip file to the GAME folder on your PSP.
  7. Quit USB Mode
  8. Load the eLoader (see the methods above), select PSPool, and enjoy
[left]Note: some homebrews do not work as they are created for 1.50 firmware which has better functionality. Also this is not a method for loading iso's as eloader does not have a kernel mode. Lastly SNES 9x TYL .42 may not work as you may need the white screen fix located here
