| Novice | Softmodding your PS2 So you want to mod your PS2, but you don't want to buy the chip? Sweet, you've come to the right place! Okay, you'll need a bunch of stuff for this. Don't worry, this CANNOT harm your PS2 in any way, shape, or form ;o Stuffs you'll need for this tutorial: Fat PS2 (Note: If you want to play games on the Slim Ps2, there's some USB thing out there for you) If you want to put a Hard Drive in your PS2, you'll need a Network Adaptor. An Original (Not copied) Playstation 1 Game PS2Save Builder (See attachments) IDGET (See attachments) Titleman Frontend (See attachments) exploit.cbs (MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service) USB Drive that works with Codebreaker Codebreaker A memory card with at least 1.5 megs free (Highly recommended!) Everything else that is tutorial specific and will be noted on that tutorial. Frequently Asked Questions: Q: Do I need to open my PS2 for this? A. No. (Unless you want to put a Hard Drive in to store games on.) Q: Is softmodding my PS2 Illegal? A. No. Q: Can I go online with copied games? A. Yes. For some games, you'll have to get a patcher Insert your Playstation 1 game into your computer drive. We'll refer to this disc as the "Trigger" disc from now on. Open IDGet and select the drive that your game is in. Click the "GET" button to get it's ID. Open Titleman Frontend and ignore the startup message. Create a new Title.DB with the Create Title.DB button. Use the pulldown menu and type the game ID you just retrieved. Once typed, use the ADD EXEC button to add your game to the Title.DB. Note 1: Your Title.DB will be placed in the same folder as Titleman Frontend. Note 2: Not all games like being trigger discs. If this doesn't work, try another PSX game. Open PS2 Save Builder and open the exploit.cbs file. Replace everything in the Root/ID section with your region code, if it is not already correct. If you have an NTSC PS2 (USA and Japan), type BADATA-SYSTEM If you have a PAL PS2 (Everywhere else), type BEDATA-SYSTEM Right click in the white space and then click on "Add File". Navigate to where your Title.DB file is located and add it to the .cbs file. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you also add HDLOADER.ELF, HDLD_SVR.ELF, CSL.ELF, and EXECFTPS.ELF to your CBS file as well. This will allow you to play games off of the Hard Drive (HDLOADER.ELF), send games to the Hard Drive (HDLD_SVR.ELF), Play burned games off of a DVD (CSL.ELF), and FTP to your PS2 (EXECFTPS.ELF). These can be found in the EXTRAS folder included with exploit.cbs. Once you're finished, save it. Overwrite the old one if you want. We don't need it anymore. Now, plug in your USB drive into a USB port on the computer. Transfer the file you just saved to your USB Device. Turn on your Playstation 2 , insert the Codebreaker CD, and the USB Drive. (Make sure your memory card is in there too -_-) From the main Codebreaker screen, select DEVICE MANAGER. Then select the USB Drive icon. You should now be presented with a screen that lists any .CBS save files on the flash drive. Select the "Your SystemConfiguration" file with the X button, then press the Triangle button to select an action. Select copy, and choose the memory card as your destination. Before the copy process begins, you may be presented with a confirmation warning that you are about to overwrite your system settings. Ignore this warning and proceed. Insert your chosen Trigger Disc into the PS2, with your chosen Memory Card in Slot 1, and start the PS2. You should now be able to see the LaunchELF Boot Screen. Congratulations! You've just softmodded your PS2! What do you do now? You could put in a hard drive if you want, or just use CogSwapLoader to play burned games. Special Thanks to: exploitstation.com ps2modz.com afterdawn.com The creaters of all the tools I used |

| Novice | Re: Softmodding your PS2 ok answering all your questions codebreaker is a program that opens up exploits and cheats within games. programmers use this software to hack (modify) your ps2. you can buy it at gamestop or some other retailer for roughly $30 or so or cheaper if its an old version YOU NEED to BUY it NOT DOWNLOAD IT because you would be missing out on files that you need. yes you need a psx disk otherwise you cant have the code needed to use the psx entry flaw, using a ps2 disk wont help you any because it uses different code yes you can do it without an hdd but you would need a cogswap thing, its basically a chopped up credit card that you use to pull the cd tray out along with possible code to run it. each origional ps2 and psx disk has a segment of code unique to freshly pressed ps2 disks not burned pressed like made at a sony factory. thats why you need this exploit otherwise your ps2 wont know jack $#!T about it. so be safe out there and do more research and i hate double posting but i seem to have missed one question. you need CDR for PSX games, and DVDR for PS2 games, there is a special type of dvd that is standard now called like duel layered type 5 or something. sorry for the double post again |

| Novice | Re: Softmodding your PS2 turk yes you can use codebreaker, it acts like a regular game and Help with uLaunchelf [Archive] - PSX/PS2/PS3 Scene Newz should help you out a bit with the other stuff You need a exploit install CD here (mikestyle.com - PS2 mc exploit) you can view one then when your cd is ready burn it and then you can transfer elf files trough the network. its simple and fast. just take your time with it and make sure you follow the steps correctly. also its illegal to tell you places to find the bios and some other minor requirements. hope that helps a bit supposedly there is a program called DVD Decrypter v3.5.4.0 which is able to create ps2 games without a mod or anything. currently i am looking into it, it is ILLEGAL to torrent it like any other program that is not free without the consent of the owner. but if this works ill tell you guys asap |
