Use Video iPod to experience iPod Touch
Hardware: the fifth generation or updated Video iPod.
If you love your previous Video iPod and also like the new iPod Classic or Touch interface, no problem, you can change iPod menu. Two operating system assistants can make your Video iPod with the menu looking like Classic or Touch.
Touch Hack 2.0 makes the fifth generation or updated Video iPod look like an iPod Touch. (no, it won’t get your screen to feel more sensitive). Classic Hack adds multi-picture interface for Video iPod, selection region on the left and mini Now Playing on the right. It also upgrades main Now Playing screen as similar Classic interface. Touch Hack 2.0 makes the wizardly changes: the Now Playing screen and the menu icons with a lovely Touch style. Any Hack doesn’t have Cover Flow, but you get a super cool (it can be recovered) and new interface.
To install Touch Hack 2.0, first please modify the menu settings of your iPod. The options will appear: music, photo, video, and other settins. To make sure that iTunes are not running, please make iPod exit out of iTunes. But keep connecting all the time.
Download and decompress Hack and download the free tool: iPodWizard. Install the 3rd party software into your iPod to launch the program. Change Edit Mode into Firmware File and click Open Firmware to specify it into the operating system of your fifth generation iPod Touch. Be sure that the plugged iPod lies in the list of iPodWizard Essentials region. If the list shows “uninstall”, please click Mount button to wait until the correct name of iPod appears.
Now click “Write” to iPod and wait for seconds to complete the process.
When downloading the operating system, please make sure that the version of your Video iPod can run 5G iPod operating system but can not run 5.5 G iPod. So it is with the versa. If error comes up or you do not like the new interface, just back to iPodWizard and click Downgrade Firmware button to recover the original operating system.
Move DVD into your iPod

It is a very cool thing to own an iPod that can play videos. However, how to make your videos become the formats compatible with the players? Gem HandBrake can realize it, fitable with Windows, Mac and Linux system. The simple tool will change DVD into MP4 video files compatible with your iPod.
For some DVDs, anyway: HandBrake can not decrypt them, protecting most of Hollywood movies. It is designed to crack the unprotected discs. But some Google searches get some tools useful. (DVDshrink，dvd43) These tools can decrypt DVD quickly.
After nstalling DVD43 or the similar decryption tools, launch HandBrake. Click Show Presets button then choose the appropriate presets: Now plug DVD into iPhone/iPod Touch、iPod High-Re or iPod Low-Rez. In a few minutes the system will recognize DVD and then click Browse of “Source” region. Specify DVD into the folder of Video_TS and click “OK” to next step. Choose an output path for the output files (by default iTunes folder is the path). At last click “Encode Video” and wait for some time. In spite of the fast system, it still need several hours to decrypt a typical DVD. When HandBrake completes it, copy the new videos into your iPod, just like place other video files.
Of course, there are still easier tools to appear in the market such as Pavtube dvd ripper It can directly copy your DVD into your iPod to watch. In addition, it support merge function and multi-angle enjoyment.

when you install a "theme" or "hack" its not a new operating system its just modified Apple OS frimware

BTW it very confusing ive done my fair share of ipod modding and i couldn't even fallow that

um... is it possible to "crack" something that isnt protected? Because from what i understand, you are cracking the encryption that isnt there...
and yes, the hacks and themes are just the original apple firmware with alterations made.

also, that tutorial lacked structure. it was all just one big paragraph basically. it could also use some screen caps and pictures of the hacks so people would know what they are doing and how to do it.

also, one important thing is that you have to enable disc use. (or at least i had to. you dont want to be one of the people that figure that out the hard way. lol) you also didnt do a very good job of explaining 5g vs 5.5g and what that meant. that is the model of your ipod...
