A few FAQ's and such to eliminate small questions and whatnot What is Jailbreaking? - Jailbreaking gives you access to a large number of programs that Apple does not provide. Quote: A jailbreak is the act or tool used to perform the act of breaking out of a chroot or jail in UNIX-like operating systems or bypassing digital rights management (DRM). In the former case it allows the user to see files outside of the filesystem that the administrator intends to make available to the application or user in question. In the context of DRM, this allows the user to run arbitrarily defined code on DRM-encumbered devices as well as break out of chroot-like restrictions. DRM-encumbered devices such as the iPhone have repeatedly been subject to jailbreaks, allowing the execution of arbitrary code, but have had those jailbreaks disabled by vendor updates Quote: This is the application for modifying an iPhone or iPod Touch. Installer.app is a utility to jailbreak an iPhone. The version for v1.0.-1.0.2 and v1.1.2 was also called AppTapp and the online installer for direct iPhone or iPod Touch jailbreaking was also called AppSnapp. With every firmware update, hacks have been disabled. Installer.app can be downloaded for iBrickr also and the 1.1.2 Windows jailbreaking package "HomeFree" also installs Installer, as does the Mac OS X application iNDependence. Installer is developed by Nullriver. A few previews: Code: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=367577 No, there have been no reports of a bricked (locked) iPod during this installation. If anything, you would have to restore, and it will be back to default settings if anything goes wrong (like you just bought it). Will this erase all my music, videos, etc.? - If you have a jailbroken iPod touch at 1.1.1 and wish to update to a jailbroken 1.1.2, no. If you have a clean firmware, yes. Still, there are known errors with trying to upgrade to JB 1.1.2, so dont be so sure that it will work. Wait, so if I have a jailbroken 1.1.1, I can upgrade to 1.1.2 and keep all my info, apps, and music? - As for me, a few personal friends, and other various forums yes, you indeed keep all your settings. When you DO upgrade, you may not see some apps or downloads listed, but are currently on your iPod. For example, if you had mail.app and had accounts on it, upgraded, and dont see it. Re-download it, and you accounts should be put back into place. zOMG?!111?!!!1111!?!1 - I know, right? What does Apple think? - Well, even though this wasnt in their plans, due to a search on edgagdetsnfkjse (however you spell, its the damn blog with all the apple updates, google it or something, you get my point), Apple doesn't care. There only concern is people who use jailbreak to unlock iPhones, but other than that, they could give a rats *** about you putting unsupported (yes) 3rd party apps on your iPod touch & phone. Their next update (1.1.3) is suppose to have SDK (Software developer Kit) in which you can put supported apps on. So, upgrade to 1.1.3? - Sure. Go ahead. And yes, you will lose all jailbroken data, and you cannot (I repeat: cannot, and again CANNOT for emphasis) downgrade. Wait, What if I have 1.1.2, and its not jailbroken? - Sucks for you. You'll have to downgrade to 1.1.1, jailbreak it, then upgrade (not from iTunes). Will this effect my iPod Touch/iPhone performance? It shouldnt, then again dont be stupid and install every damn program and game. The processor is 620MHz but for right now apple has limited it to 412MHz, so from personal experience it does a pretty good job staying solid with 2/3's the speed available. Flash? No. At least not yet. Ah, anything else you'd like to bore us with? No, if you screw up. Tough. You can post your problem and see if you can get some help, but I mean I warned you about things that could happen. I'm not responsible if anything else happens, and if something goes wrong I will show you how to restore your iPod in case you wanna try again or give up. So all in all, lets do this, Zenova What you need:
MiRROR.ZeNoVa.iPOD.FiRMWARE-1.1.1 - 150MB Code: http://rapidshare.com/files/81893962/MiRROR.ZeNoVa.iPOD.FiRMWARE-1.1.1.part1.rar http://rapidshare.com/files/81894758/MiRROR.ZeNoVa.iPOD.FiRMWARE-1.1.1.part2.rar Code: http://rapidshare.com/files/81893228/MiRROR.ZeNoVa.iPOD.JAiLBREAK-1.1.2.zip the end of the process. Continue reading to understand. Downgrading to 1.1.1 Quote: 1. Download the 1.1.1 firmware file, unzip, and it should be a .ipsw file. 2. Reboot your iPhone holding the top (power) and home buttons BUT release the top button 10 seconds into it (right after the screen goes dark) and continue to hold the home button until iTunes detects the phone in recovery mode. The iPhone screen will appear to be off, but start iTunes if not started yet . 3. Restore your iPhone - press and hold the Shift key on windows or theOption key on Mac, then click restore to select the 1.1.1 firmware file you downloaded earlier. The restore should go through and errors at the end with error 1015. However you will notice that the iphone is in DFU mode with the connect to iTunes screen from 1.1.1. 4. In order to kick the phone out of that mode, start TouchFree by double-clicking "windows.bat" on Windows or "jailbreak.jar" in OS X, then click the "Boot from Recovery" button. Quote: *** NOTE: If your phone has been activated through iTunes, you can proceed to step 2b. *** 1. enter *#307# press call, now use the back button on the top of your screen to remove *#307# , now enter 0 , press call, press answer, press hold, press decline. And you get to the contact list. And thereafter every time you push the homebutton you just slide the "emergency call" slide, then enter 0 , press call, press hold, press decline. 2. Push contacts, end call and you get called again, this time hit decline and you access one of menus with favorites, you can edit contacts, do a test ride on keyboard, take photos etc. 3. Now edit a new contact and type in "prefs://11" as web-address and "http://jailbreakme.com" as an additional URL. 4. When you tap "prefs://11" you can now select your favorite WiFi gateway. 5. Now press the home button and move the slider to the dial-pad. 6. Now you can go back to the contact list by Dialing 0, push call, then answer, then contacts, then hit the "http://jailbreakme.com" web address you typed in. 7. Scroll down to the bottom, click "Install AppSnapp". Safari will exit and you'll return to your springboard. Wait for the phone to reboot. You are now jailbroken. and are able to use Installer.app. Quote: 1. Launch Safari 2. Visit AppSnapp, Scroll down to the bottom, click "Install AppSnapp". Safari will exit and you'll return to your springboard. Slide to unlock, you are now jailbroken. and are able to use Installer.app. Quote: 1. Launch Installer.app 2. Scroll down to Tweaks (1.1.1) 3. Select OktoPrep 4. Click Install Quote: If you have installed MobileMail on your iPod touch, there is a chance an update to 1.1.2 will render your device inoperable until a restore. This issue can be prevented by switching Auto-Check off. - Go to General->Mail->Auto-Check. Set it to Manual. If you forget to do this step and update, proceed with the jailbreak in step 5 (even though SpringBoard is unusable) and we will fix it for you. Quote: 1. Connect your device to your computer 2. Launch iTunes 3. Choose your device 4. Click Update - If update still shows 1.1.1 as being the newest version, you may download the 1.1.2 from an Apple download server and shift-click (PC) or option-click (Mac) on "Check for update" and select the update you downloaded. - DO NOT CLICK OR SHIFT-CLICK RESTORE: That will wipe the changes OktoPrep made. 5. Wait forever for your device to update Quote: WARNING: If your iPhone is unactivated, it will be factory "hactivated" for you and YouTube enabled. If this is not desired behavior, activate your iPhone with iTunes before proceeding. 1. Close iTunes 2. Connect your device to your computer 3. On Windows, double click on windows.bat, on Mac, double click on jailbreak.jar 4. Follow the on screen instructions. Some extras as a gift for your "hard" work: Extra Sources Code: http://www.se7ensins.com/forums/ipod-modding/81929-some-good-add-sources.html Quote: 1) Go to installer -> sources. Click on EDIT (top right). Then click on ADD (top left). Enter this url: “http://repo.us.to” and click OK. Next click DONE. 2) Go to install. and browse to “iPhone 1.1.1 Apps for iTouch” or to “iPhone 1.1.2 Apps for iTouch” depending on what version you have. 3) Install “Mobile Mail Prep” and “Mobile Mail” (plus any other app you may want ) 4) Reboot On the 1.1.1 JB, the installer had a little green arrow, and after JB 1.1.2 its not there, whats to do? Same happened to me and a few others. Go back to Code: jailbreakme.com When I go to download things, I see things listed that I already downloaded. Like my icons are there but the set I downloaded is listed in the downloads. - ...Ok, then dont download them then. For the iPhone apps, we have to installed the program plus its "prep" correct? - If it comes with one, yes. Can calender add events? 1.1.1 doesnt, 1.1.2 does (since the update for it orignally made it so you could add events without having to sync with iCal.) If you plan to stick with with 1.1.1, go to Installer -> All Packages -> Touch Calender Fix -> Install. That will enable you to add events. Upgrading to 1.1.2 seems a little risky. Should I do it? You dont "have" to. You can get just as many things as 1.1.1. The only difference is whatever Apple updated in the 1.1.2 version. You do not have to upgrade though. If I plan to take my iPod Touch/iPhone to the Apple store for any issues resulting in having them look at it, do I have to restore? Afraid so. Since its not supported by Apple they wont fix it if its still jailbroken. So once you restore they wont even know. Jailbreaking 1.1.3 Quote: STATEMENT OF RISK As all upgrades are risky, this one is doubly so. You may have to restore your phone using iTunes and start again if it fails. Make sure to back up first! Let's continue This jailbreak, like the 1.1.2 jailbreak, comes as an upgrade. This means you need to have a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken phone already, before you can begin. Update - unlocked phones appear to remain unlocked and work properly after the update, according to scattered reports. MAC VERSION - Download the 1.1.3 package maker and open it, then run Run_This. Read carefully, press Enter when necessary, and the image will be uploaded to your phone. Code: http://devices.natetrue.com/iphone/jb113.dmg - Start with a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken phone with Installer.app installed. - Plug in your phone via USB to your computer. - Download, extract, and run iBrickr Special 1.1.3 jailbreak edition (ibrickr.exe in the archive). Code: http://devices.natetrue.com/iphone/ibrickr-jb113.zip Quote: - iBrickr will determine what firmware you are running on your phone and make sure you can run the update. - iBrickr will then guide you through the process of obtaining and modifying the 1.1.3 firmware (make sure to read everything thoroughly). - iBrickr will upload the new firmware image to your phone. Note that this only puts the file on your phone and does not modify it at all, yet. - When iBrickr finishes (should take about 10 minutes), it will tell you to go to Installer and install the "1.1.3 soft upgrade" package. Do that. - When the installer finishes (this should take another 10-15 minutes), your phone should reboot with a fresh activated 1.1.3 firmware. Now you may be wondering how this jailbreak works. Here's a breakdown: - iBrickr grabs the 1.1.3 iPhone firmware image and extracts, decrypts, and decompresses the disk image. - Then it applies a patch, jailbreaking the disk image and activating it, and also installing Installer.app. - It uploads this new modified image to the phone, as 113_upgrade_image.bin. - The "1.1.3 soft upgrade" app flashes the phone with the image and reboots. - You have a perfect, jailbroken, upgraded 1.1.3 phone, with all your settings and music intact!
