To start, tap the Installer icon and locate the file "Community Sources". This will allow a larger list of available applications. To uninstall simply tap the Installer.app and go to "Uninstall", locate the application you wish to uninstall, tap it and tap "Uninstall" in the top right hand corner. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Installing iPhone applicationsFirstly download this file with all the contents you need Download: MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service This contains the following: GMM.framework Maps.app MobileMail.app MobileMailSettings.bundle MobilesNotes.app N45AP.plist Stocks.app Weather.app After you have unzipped them, place them onto your iPod Touch as follows: Weather.app, MobileMail.app, Stock.app, Maps.app, MobileNotes to /Applications/ GMM.framework to /System/Library/Frameworks/ N45AP.plist to /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/ MobileMailSettings.bundle to /System/Library/PreferenceBundles/ To place these files onto your iPod Touch you will need a FTP client that supports SFTP, in this way, permissions could be applied easily without a fuss. For Mac use CyberDuck, remember to check the box "Apply permission recursively". For windows, try WS_FTP, it should work like CyberDuck. CyberDuck Download: WS_FTP 30 day trial Download: Ipswitch, Inc. - Try WS_FTP Professional 2007 or Putty Download: http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~s.../download.html Reboot your iPod Touch after transferring all the files across. *IMPORTANT NOTE: change file permission to 755 via ftp or ssh. REMEMBER, all files in folders and subfolders have to be in permission 755 for the apps to run properly. If your iPhone applications crash then login to putty with Username: root Password: apline and type the following: /bin/csh /bin/chmod -Rf a+x /Applications/* Similarly, using terminal for Mac, ssh into your iPod touch and type the above. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Installing SummerBoardUsing Installer.app on your iPod Touch, install SummerBoard 2.11. Restart your iPod Touch. When your iPod Touch boots back up, do not worry if your dock is stuck at the top of the screen. Download this file and extrat the files to a folder. Download: http://www.nullriver.com/~zigzag/SummerBoard.zip Open that folder you created and using the SFTP program, SSH into your iPod Touch, (you will need Wifi connection on your iPod Touch for this). For those that don't know how to find your IP go to the Settings > WiFi > Under your network name tap on the blue arrow > IP Address. Type that into your connection box. User: root Password: alpine Once you have SSH'd into your iPod Touch navigate to these folders, delete the file/folder below and replace it with the file you have just downloaded: /Library/Frameworks/ (SummerBoard.framework) /Applications/ (SMBPrefs.app) /var/root/Library/SummerBoard/ (Themes) /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ (com.apple.SpringBoard.plist) Once you have successfully replace these 4 files/folders set all permissions to 755 Restart your iPod Touch and enjoy SummerBoard. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Installing SummerBoard themesTo install SummerBoard themes you can download them like an application via Installer.app, but if you have a theme of your own you can install them by SFTP. Connect to your iPod Touch via SFTP, and navigate into /Libary/SummerBoard/Themes where you'll see the directories of the four pre-installed themes. Once there upload your theme folder. The path should be /Libary/SummerBoard/Themes/<ThemeName> Now return to your iPhone’s home screen (press the “Home” button) and launch SMBPrefs, then press “Theme” and select “<ThemeName>” (the theme we just uploaded). Press the “Home” button once more to return to your home screen and see the new theme in place. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Installing ROMs (NES)Connect to your iPod Touch via SSH and navigate to /var/root/Media. Create a folder here named "ROMs" and then another folder called "[/b]NES[/b]. Once you have done that go into the folder NES and drag your .nes files across. To get ROMs you can download them free at these websites 1: http://www.theoldcomputer.com/Libara...ms_summary.htm 2: Free Roms - SNES ROMS, NES ROMS, N64 ROMS, MAME ROMS, XBOX 360 ROMS, Wii ROMS, PS3 ROMS, Genesis ROMS then click NES 3: CoolROM.com - Nintendo / NES ROMs - A 4: Nintendo NES Roms at ROMNation.NET - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - How to change permissionsSSH into your iPod Touch and open a SSH, and type: chmod -R a+x /Applications/* How to create SummerBoard themes To make your own SummerBoard theme you have to create 3 images; StatusBar, Wallpaper and Dock. Make a folder called your <ThemeName> and have the following: Status Bar: Status bar image (optional, 320x20 PNG, alpha) Wallpaper (Background): The wallpaper (320x480 PNG, no alpha) Dock: The dock image for the large dock (320x91 PNG, alpha) alpha = transparency For icons, the maximum size is 60x60, these go into ThemeName/Icons/ These need to named as such Music.png Photos.png Videos.png etc. When saving your graphic files be sure to use Adobe Photoshop's "Save for Web" function. This can reduce icon sizes from ~65kb down to ~10kb for example. Optimizing your graphics is very important. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - How to ScreenshotScreenshots with SSH First of all download this file, either link Download #1: Download #2: Next, SFTP to your iPod Touch and place the file into /Applications/. This tool can only be ran via an SSH to your iPod. So, open an SSH and run a CHMOD to correct the permissions: chmod -R a+x /Applications/* Lastly, run the command in SSH: /Applications/screenshot Go retrieve the file at the location it specified on your iPod when it executed. Dock.app To take a screenshot install Dock.app. When you have Dock.app installed you will notice a yellow sunburst in the bottom right of your iPod Touch's screen. Drag from the bottom right upwards to switch between all your applications. The 2nd from last icon is 'Screenshot', release your finger when on the icon and navigate into your iPod Touch by SSH into /tmp/ There should be an image called 'foo_0.png' around 325 KB, download this to your desktop for the screenshot you've taken on that page. SUGGESTION: delete the image off /tmp/ once you have downloaded it to your desktop. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Calender fixTap into Installer.app and scroll down to 'System' and install 'iTouch Calender Fix'. This should work but I haven't tried it yet. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - How to get around the 3rd party application limitWARNING: Although this seems to work just as intended, it's not been tested for more than a number of hours, meaning that it's entirely possible it could somehow break in the future. Therefore, only do this at your own risk! (Although the risk of it bricking your iPod touch is very low, since you'll most likely keep SSH access even if screwing up) SSH into your iPod Touch using the SFTP client of your choice. Move your applications folder to the /private/var/ folder by typing the following: mv /Applications /private/var/Applications Change directly to / by typing: cd / Create a symbolic link to the Applicaions folder's new location ln -s /private/var/Applications Applications Type the following to get a directly list of /, so we can make sure the symbolic link was create correctly: ls -la In the list that comes up, you should have an entry similar to this one: lrwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 25 Oct 12 22:31 Applications -> /private/var/Applications Now all you have to do is reboot your iPod Touch. To further make sure it's working correctly for you, enter the Installer.app and check the available space at the bottom. It should be higher tha it was previously. Quote: Works! Shows 43,70MB available, but it doesn't change when I install apps, so I can install unlimited apps. Quote: Don't try to do this from the touch with the built in terminal. I just made an ibrick. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - How to force your iPod Touch into restore modeWarning: This should be used as a last resort, restoring will erase all of your data Firstly, you must have the iPod Touch plugged into your computer while doing this. To start, press and hold the home and sleep/wake button, the power off option will appear but ignore it. When the apple logo appears let go of the sleep/wake button but keep holding the home button. After a few seconds you should see the connect to iTunes image (you can let go of the home button now). Open iTunes and it should recognize your iPod Touch, if not unplug your iPod and plug it back in again. Restore your iPod Touch by clicking the "Restore" button on iTunes. I've actually been reading up on it quite a bit and I feel 100% comfortable in the process it seems to have pretty high success rates I just don't like the idea of voiding a warranty.......I'd hate to be the one out of 'x' that has a bad piece of hardware | ||||||
