How to copy music from your iPod [Easy-No Programs]

*Reminder
The purpose of this tutorial is to make a backup of your iPod in-case you happen to lose it, destroy it, or it breaks out of nowhere. Then you'll still have your music Thank You.

OK. Well this tutorial requires no programs, and basic knowledge of clicking stuff.

Requirements:
*iPod
*Attachment cable w/ the iPod
*Computer
*Space for the amount of songs on your iPod

Step 1.
Open my computer. This can be done by going to the Start Menu>>My Computer.

Click the image to open in full size.

Step 2.
Open the drive with your iPod on it.

Click the image to open in full size.

Step 3.
Once in the iPod drive, click tools, folder options, click the view tab, and on the list of settings click the show hidden folders option. When you are done, click apply, and the OK button.

Click the image to open in full size.

Step 4.
Once you're done with step 3, there will be a folder labeled iPod_Control.

Click the image to open in full size.

Step 5.
Open the iPod_Control folder where you will find a folders labeled Music, Movies, Pictures, etc.

Click the image to open in full size.

Step 6.
For the songs, we open the music folder. In that folder are many other folders (depending on the amount of songs stored on your iPod.) These are labeled F--, the -- being a number such as F00 or F01. These are the files holding your music. The names, artists, albums, and etc. are still on the files, so don't worry about that.

Click the image to open in full size.

Step 7.
Now to copy the music, you select all of the folders, or hit CTRL + A, and once they are selected, you can right click>>copy, or press CTRL + C. This will copy the music.

Click the image to open in full size.

Step 8.
Now, make a new folder on your desktop, or my documents and label it whatever you choose. Once you are in that folder, paste the files by either, right click>>paste, or press CTRL + V. This will paste the music folders into this new folder.

Click the image to open in full size.

Once all of the steps are completed, you will have copied your iPod to your computer. From there you can burn a backup to CD, or whatever you prefer.

However, you can't backup individual songs.

Yes, that is true, but if you're smart enough, you can look around for the author and the songs usually have some initial in the file :p

I highly doubt it is much different on vista. The way to get into your file or change the settings may be a little harder to get to, but I have never used it on vista.

Thanks for the tutorial. I've been trying to figure out how to do that forever. Now when my computer crashes in a few months I can hopefully get my songs back on iTunes.

Well that depends. I know that you can set the songs to play in iTunes and then just play it in itunes before you transfer it. Or just search.

Yeah, is there any easy/quick way to search them all or do you just search each individual folder?
